2014 Sierra 1500 - Trade up?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Been watching this fourm for a while but never posted. I have a 2014 1500 All Terrain Dbl Cab 5.3. Since owning I have had in order:

- Transmission tune update

- Stuck in 4wd Issue

- Freezing exhaust valve

- headlight bulb upgrade

- trailer hitch replacement

- and now the seat belt issue

I hate to complain but I'm getting sick of trips to the dealer.

I live in a remote area and the only close dealers are GM and Ford. Should I trade up to a 2016 Model year? I also don't really like the shifts from 4-8 cylinders and not interested in an aftermarket tune to fix.

Anyone else feel this way?

What are you expecting out of repeating the same process and hoping for different results? Guess what? Buy a 2016 and come back in 2 years. You will be posting the same question...except for the headlight upgrade.

Expecting issues to be worked out by the third year. I already regret making this post knowing now the types of answers I will most likely get.

I get why you would say that. I too would think that by now some of the first year issues have been worked out. However, as they tweak other stuff, it wouldn't surprise me if new issues pop up with the new headlights, etc. It is always a gamble when you buy a vehicle. Shouldn't be but it is. Overall quality is up across all brands, but these are still very complicated machines.

- Transmission tune update - Will not change until you get a custom tune.

- Stuck in 4wd Issue - Still luck of the draw.

- Freezing exhaust valve - Will not change until you cut it out.

- headlight bulb upgrade - LEDs work great. Long term life is yet to be seen.

- trailer hitch replacement - Recalls happen and will continue to happen.

- and now the seat belt issue - Recalls happen and will continue to happen.

Has your truck left you stranded in the side of the road? If yes, then maybe you should try something new. If no, your grievances are over petty issues and a change in model year and perhaps even different manufacturer will not solve your issue of recalls and nit noid issues.

Sounds like you have worked all the bugs out of your current ride. There's always a chance you might start all over with a new one. Seems like it's luck of the draw. With that said, I'm very happy with my 2015.(knock on wood)

I've traded newer vehicles for a lot less complaints..........money spent to purchase piece of mind is always a bargain.

I've had all the same issues with a nearly identical truck. Just had the rad replaced this week as well. Piece of mind is the truck works and won't leave you stranded. None of the things you listed are worth the thousands lost due to depreciation, refinancing, and paying taxes all over again. The lights might be if you have poor eyesight but I've driven plenty of dark roads and get along just fine.

Pay it off and enjoy it. When it's paid off, keep making payments to yourself. By the time you have 500k on it you could pay cash for a new one. If you feel this way about such minor issues, I don't think you'd be happy with anything.

I agree with what your saying. Probably the best bet for me. Thanks.

Simply get use to recalls. For years all manufactures hide this stuff. Now after GM's issues they are all now not hiding their issues.

So it's a pain to get the recalls done but everyone is probably allot safer now.

I've never had an issue with the Flapper.

The Transfer case re-program fixed the 4WD issue and my shifting issues.

Regardless all of the new 2016 trucks on the lot all have to have the seat belt fix done before they can even sell them.

Plus the have the Transfer Case update, Transmission Update and probable more updates they learned from the 2015 and 2015.

All things already done if you took your truck in.

In the end it's way cheaper to pay to have your headlights upgraded then it is to buy another truck. Not sure where you live but the price has jumped up in Canada on the new 2016's.

I have had all of those except the hitch done which i will be going in next week for, all taken care of within two trips to the dealer which i made coincide with my free oil changes. 2 trips to the dealer going on a year and half now, i would say that pretty damn good for a first year complete redesign no? Would you rather gm just bury it and not fix it's issue?

No that's not what I'd rather. Nor did I ask that. Just simply asking if the trade up to a 2016 would be the better move.

I just found it strange to have so many issues, some small I know, for a truck that only has 20,000 kms.

And yes I'm glad GM is taking the time to fix the issues.

The 2016 is the same truck except for better lighting and the 8 speed which by all accounts suffers from more problems and teething issues then the 6 speed since it is brand new and the 6 speed has had almost a decade of service now.

I don't know guys, I've now owned a 14 full load sierra and upgraded to a 16'. I can truely say that both trucks where great and flawless. Except the lights on the 14'. Never had no issues at all. Having said that the 16' is better with the few refinments. I enjoyed the 14 and now enjoying my 16'. Having said that i would upgrade if you can or choose to. The little things to me go along way if you can afford it.

8 speed like

lights double like

auto diming like

lane assit to keep you in your right lane like, but can be better

apple/android play like

console charger like

seats in my opionion better, more comfortable like

heated seats work better like

spray in box liner like

And a few other things that I've probably missed.
