Tow mirror question

I see in the build and price area that tow mirrors are offered in the accessories section and the explanation sounds like they are dealer installed instead of factory installed. Am I reading it right or is the description wrong. I figured the factory would put them on during assembly.

So how do I get tow mirrors?

It is only installed at factory if an ordered option. Dealer may install if you pay them to. Everyone you see is adding them afterwards (like I did).

Factory installed tow mirrors on a 1500 are only available as part of the NHT (Max Tow) package.

Max tow is not available with Z71 or on Denali/High Country.

There are some that don't want tow mirrors and are changing to small ones - so there are 'take-offs' available.

Thanks, I confirmed that thru the GMC website chat yesterday. That has to be THE dumbest thing I've discovered while researching GM trucks so far. I had two Platinum F150's and now a Ram Limited. All the top of the heap for the respective manufacturers. They had factory installed towing mirrors. This has not made me very excited about switching to GM. Now, I have to order a truck, say Denali Ultimate for $60,000+, then I have to deal with the parts dudes and try to get a deal on $1,800 "worth" of parts and finally have service tear apart a brand new truck's door trim panels hoping they don't damage anything. And pay them. Ludicrous. This really ticks me off.

I'm not going to spend hours looking for take offs, hoping they are really like new and actually work. Plus I don't want to deal with trying to sell the mini mirrors in an attempt to recoup some of the stupid amount of money I spent just to make the truck usable.

I really want to give GM trucks a try. I was willing to give up the proximity door unlocking and push button start and go back to using a key. Now I can't get tow mirrors from the factory, either. Now I don't know..... Sad in a way.

Are you going with a 1500 or 2500? 1500, the tow mirrors are available on WT/Sierra trim, regular cab LS/Sierra and LT/SLE, LT/SLE and LTZ/SLT with max tow (double or crew) only. All other conifgs would have to be dealer installed. On HD trucks, they are free to add to all trims and cab configurations.

I'm switching to a half ton. I'm not downgrading in order to get tow mirrors. The 2nd gen Ecoboost is coming out for 2017. Looks like the Ford F150 Platinum has taken the lead. I was all gung-ho to swap into a GM truck. GM is nuts to figure someone that buys a highline truck with trailer tow and a trailer brake controller wouldn't maybe want tow mirrors, too. This whole thing has me grumpy.

FWIW, you might have to get tow package with max payload from Ford to get the jogger-smacker mirrors.

And the Ram tow mirrors I think suck. They don't extend as far.

When I was looking before purchasing, if you ORDER a truck, you should be able to add the mirrors separately. Maybe check with local dealer.

If you base purchase decision solely on tow mirror availability, you're not really evaluating the vehicle IMHO. I spent $400 and about 30 minutes to put my mirrors on.

Visit your dealer and tell them you want your denali with the DQS tow mirrors installed.

Make them do it as part of the deal and negotiate a price you can live with.

Some 'factory' options included as part of factory order, are installed after the vehicle arrives at the dealer anyway.

At they end of the day, it doesn't matter when/how they get put on, only that the truck is they way you want and that it is at a price you agree to.

I'm actually working with a dealer trying to work out some sort of solution. One way or another, I feel I'm getting screwed out of about $1,500. in order to get what I need to tow my enclosed car trailer.
