Shock leaking

I've got about 500 miles on my new 2016 and the right rear rancho Shock is already leaking. Dealer is ordering replacement.

Do yourself a favor and just ditch the Rancho's altogether. They are shit, and will continue to blow out.

I've thought about doing just that but also thought about getting the same type of shocks that the Denali has. Thoughts?

Compared to Fox and Bilstien the Rancho's aren't as good. But they aren't that bad either. I have Ranchos and I've even accidentally went over a railroad track a little too fast and the truck either almost bottomed out on the bump stops or did bottom out on the stops. I'm actually surprised the N-fab steps didn't scrap the road. Well mine didn't blow and this is the first I've heard of one blowing out on these K2s, especially so early. I don't think they will keep blowing out. Probably just a bad seal or something.

I remember someone else posting that they had a shock fail with just a few thousand miles on the truck.

As for changing to the Denali shocks, they are magnetic ride control, and I am pretty sure you can't swap to them.

Have you already changed out the break-in fluid on the new shocks? Ask your dealership about it.

Dealer is ordering warranty replacement, but recommended I swap them all out for Fab-Tech shocks. He said that is what they use when they the do a lift kit on a truck on their lot.

Any thoughts on that brand?

BTW, this shock has failed so early that I haven't even gone through my first tank of gas that the dealer provided me when I bought the truck!

A couple of mine failed at about few thousand if I remember correctly. Got replacements but I replaced all 4 with Fox shocks. Definitely worth the money!

How are the fox shocks. I am about the jump in on the group buy on the forum. What shocks do you have in the rear and how is the ride?

I really like them. Better in every aspect except highway. I have a very slightly bumpier ride vs the ranchos at 60 up.

 

I'm getting Cognito control arms so that may help with that. It makes sense in my head lol

Been impressed with the dealer I chose this time around. He called this morning, said he had the new shock in and to come in whenever. I stopped by this afternoon. 30 minutes later, I was back on the road. Shock replaced.

Mine started to leak about 1000 miles ago. Will dealers usually give a credit of the cost of the warranty replacements on different shocks ?

I had one of my rear shocks go out after maybe a year. Replaced both with Bilstein 4600 series which ride better.
