Would you trade your 14+ for a Ford?

I've owned a crew cab F-150 lariat (pe-ecoboost days). Won't ever go back. The interior room was a bit larger but the rest of the truck was junk. I had trim fall off and fried plugs and wires with 5,000 miles on the rig. If you are considering the 150, stay clear of the ecoboost. There are known problems that Ford has not addressed.

I Can say no, been down that road had a horrible 150 2013, the 150 is a good/fair truck & outsells the GM twins but there might be a reason?, had a friend that recently got a new Miller lite alumn.150 only because he could not get a loan on a new Chevy even though his dad was co-signing, about the same sticker money, f-150 dealers will sell you a new truck if you have a pulse. To the OP that's a loaded question on here. I deff would not trade, my local Chev. dealer always have clean used Fords on the lot, go figure...

My own personal experience with Ford makes my answer no. A mechanic friend of mine was telling me about what dmax mentioned above, issues with plugs and what not as well.

If you do go the F150 route, please get a color matched front end, I really dislike seeing those weird aluminum ladder looking front ends.

Eeek!

I had a 2015 F150 with the bigger of the 2 EcoBoost options and it was quick. I'd still have it, but Ford bought it back because of rust issues. The truck was brand new and evidently was in some corrosive flood water before I bought it. Long story short, I went to put a lift on it and EVERYTHING underneath the truck was corroded. Looked like it had set in salt water for 10 years. Would have never thought to check underneath a brand new truck, but I learned my lesson. The EcoBoost was quick, but it would have never had the sound that I wanted. I found a great deal on the 2014 6.2L Silverado that I have now and couldn't be happier. I like Ford's infotainment system a little better, but the all aluminum truck was light and hopped all over rough roads. Can't beat GM's 6.2L either.

I will answer your question this way........would you trade in your 21 year old girlfriend or mistress....... for a blowup doll?

You've got an SLT. Have you adjusted the seat lower?

Have you move the steering and pedals back so you can slide the seat back and lower?

I hate to say it but now that I have had 7 months in my 2015 Sierra, I don't like it as much.

My biggest pet peeve is the lack of visibility at the top of the drivers view. The angle of the windshield is just too much, the roof is too low. Hell the overhead console is only like 10 inches from the dash! No sunroof option in my double cab, while Ford owners get a basically full roof of glass which is something only found in luxurious vehicles. I went and looked at a 2016 F150 yesterday and it had a ton more room and had far better visibility than these new GM trucks too.

I swear GM is making the cabs smaller from generation to generation, or is it just me?

What to do what to do.

How tall are you?

Not sure about the OP but I'm 6'9" and the windshield has never bothered me...even with a sunroof I have enough headroom as long as my seat is adjusted down...

Back in January I traded my 1500 for a 2500. When I was shopping, I looked at Fords and Rams, both in the heavy duty/super duty line. I personally found, that dollar for dollar, the Ford's amenities were not even close to the GMs. As for the Rams, well, they're Rams.... ;)

I love my 2500 Silvy!! It's a fantastic truck.

Saw this in the funny pic thread and it seems appropriate:

I had a 2011 F150 5.0L. Only had it for 9 months. Sucked on gas and the interior was not as nice as my Sierra. No thanks.

You couldn't give me a Ford. I'd rather drive an old C10/K10 then a brand new Ford.

    • Late reply, but yes—it works on the SLT trim. Compatibility comes down to the plastic shroud shape behind your mirror, not the trim badge itself. On the SLT with auto-dimming, it uses a plug-and-play Y-harness off the mirror/rain sensor power, so no need to run wires down to the OBD port. If anyone's ever unsure about fitment, just drop a photo of your mirror housing and we can double-check it.   Appreciate the detailed feedback on the install! On the windshield glare—we actually took feedback like yours and developed a dedicated CPL (polarizer) filter to cut down dash reflections on sunny days. If you're still running the cam, shoot me a DM. I'd be happy to send a CPL filter over for you to test out—no charge.
    • There are no stickers in your glovebox?
    • Look at the numbers on the stickers in the door jam...
    • Yes, every time the developer updates his code, you must recompile. I will private message you with the latest because it changes pretty much with every version.
    • After I wrote that reply I went for a ride. 85 F out. So trans started at 85 F and it shifted the same as it did an hour latter at 168 F. I've never actually recorded the to cold to shift point but it is under 32 F before they start hanging on to a lower gear or leaving the converter unlocked. Both intended to heat fluid.    Yes, brake or bake. Absolutely.      Your welcome. True research ended decades ago. Field trials are still in play.    There is a thing called oxidation onset temperature. This is the heat related oxidation not the O2 exposure kind. For mineral oil that starts at 140 F. So what happens after 140 F? Each 20 F cuts fluid life in half! Does using a Full Synthetic improve that? Yes! By how much? Depends on the base oil type and a few other factors. But enough to notice. Some esters are even higher. There are even synergies between types the will raise it higher than any one component is alone.    Then there is "Hindered" oils. Antioxidant additives. Hindered Polyol Esters can sit at 500 F for years in a turbine.   When a blender brags his oil will 'take 500 F" in service he doesn't specify for how long. Water will dance on a 500 F hot plate for several seconds. @newdude put up a chart showing the relationship between fluid temperature and it's life in an automatic transmission. Here's a version of that chart for Group III based oils. These temperatures are those in the pan as observed as 'normal'. that is you drive as you do for as long as you do under what load you ask of it and whatever that temperature is this graph applies to. Flash temperatures of a few minutes isn't what his means.    Note that fluids held at a constant 240 F have a service life of only 20K miles. 220 F explains the factory exchange limit, eh? My equipment I keep under 180 F and I'm good if the cooler will hold it as low as 140 F. But that's me.
