What is fair resolution to ask for?

I've been having a few issues with my 2015 Sierra SLT, most of which have fallen on deaf ears by the dealer. I've taken it in for the infamous vibration issue in which the dealer was unable to reproduce the issue. I've had several issues with the paint quality, water leaking cab, coating flaking off the frame and rust at 8,000 miles, piss poor headlights and a few other odds and ends. My dealer has been useless in resolving any of the above issues so I finally gave up and contacted GM. He took my info, gave me a case number and said that I will hear back from them after he follows the proper procedure on what they need to do on their end.

My question is what is a reasonable resolution I should be willing to accept for my troubles? It is to the point where I just want to wash my hands clean of this POS truck but I am open to giving them another chance (instead of switching brands) if they could put me behind the wheel of a 2016 with the same trim level, color, options, etc. for a killer deal. My last few trucks have been GMC and I've never had any issues with either of them so this has me hoping that I just got stuck with a lemon and that they aren't all this plagued with issues, especially given what they cost today. I've seen where people in similar situations were offered a crappy deal such as free month's payment, to a discount on accessories, all the way to a guy who was given all of his down payment back along with the amount he paid in payments for the entire time he owned the truck which I believe was a full year. Has anyone been in this situation before and if so, what type of resolution did you get from GM? If you were in this situation, what would you settle for as far as resolution goes?

Thanks for any input.

What makes you guys think the paint will be improved? The issue with paint has been an issue on all cars since around 2007. Toyota's have this problem, Honda, The new Ford's have complaints. If you want the paint to last, shell out the money and get Paint Protection Film applied as your first act of new vehicle ownership.

To the OP, GM is not going to offer to buy your truck back this early. You have yet to try another dealer. What will most likely happen is GM customer service will call your dealer and work with them to get your truck fixed, or tell you to take it to another dealer they have contacted. They might offer you a $500 coupon for free accessories or a free month payment. If it bothers you so much this early on without going to another dealership, contact the BBB or talk to your current dealership and see what they will do for you on a trade in.....either way, you're going to be out some money. Buy backs aren't a free truck for your old one deal.

How stuiped can you be to buy a 50k truck except a crap paint job when paint is coming off every panel I guess the answer is wrap it in plastic because it's just the new paint horse shit you are the kind of people GM likes just except and spend even more money to put a band aid on the problem had 07 2500 and used and abused that truck for 9 years and it had less paint chips in it than my 15 with 8k miles on it and all it has done is hall my ass around so do what you like and I am only paying the difference on msrp on the two trucks have a great dealer and they know GM has a problem it's called customer service

No paint issues on my 2015 silver metallic. Is this only with some paints?

For the OP I would say to make sure and document everything and not to seek legal advise online. Talk to a lawyer if you think it has gone that far. I am sorry you are upset and all and do feel for you that would make me angry too. Not trying to be insensitive just honest.

What part of all manufacturers have paint issues did you fail to comprehend? It has nothing to do with anyone being a GM fanboy. Dude you can be a complete tool and respond in kind, perhaps this is why your dealer isn't helping you or you can take your issue as it is....you are not the only unlucky one who has chips in their paint, Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, Dodge...etc. $800 for me was reassurance I wouldn't be pissed every time I looked at the front of my truck and coming here being an ass hat to people, venting and going off on people who are giving the straight skinny. Your options are, get a lawyer and see if you qualify for the lemon law, or contact the BBB, maybe you luck out and the dealer/GM has your truck repainted, you can buy another GM truck and expect a different result, you can leave GM all together and think that somehow someway no other manufacturer uses EPA mandated water based paints that take longer to cure and require more coats than their lacquer based predecessors, or you can pony up the dough, and get a quality paint job at the shop of your choice. Good luck, hope it works out for you before you suffer a stroke...

[people like you saying just live with it and other manufactures have problems put 800 dollar peace of plastic on 50k dollar truck and all will be ok not the answer to the problem is what I am saying

Where did I say just live with it? I gave a solution....get a clear bra. Why do you think clear bra installers have popped up all over, it's a thriving business. Perhaps you have a better solution? Complaining about it on an internet forum? It's a problem all manufacturers deal with....not much else you can do but complain. As I also mentioned earlier, you can always get the truck repainted with a quality paint job if you don't like the idea of a clear bra. If you have a better solution than complaining and going off on people, I'm all ears.

I just got done with my buyback, I paid for miles and msrp to msrp, in NY law requires saying for miles over 12k, the whole process started in January, and progressed very slowly until the last month,

No paint issues on my 2015 silver metallic. Is this only with some paints?

........

Might be something to this. The clear coat is crap on all the paints but the chipping problem may be more pronounced in some paint colors than others. I've noticed that almost all chips go down to the primer rather than to the base metal.

The black seems to chip just by looking at it.....same with the red tri-coat, but the silver birch, fairway green and the tungsten rarely chip driven essentially under the same conditions. Might have something to do with the amount of heat used to bond the powdered color coat to the primer at the factory. Vehicles on the conveyor line go through the same heat process regardless of color whereas the metal and chemical content vary by color and not bonded at the optimal time/temperature for maximum adhesion to the primer for that color.

Real underlying cause is likely is the EPA requirements forcing environmental friendly paint formulations and solvents which end up producing Jello hard clear coats and ultra-thin poorly adhering color coats. In the pre-70s automotive finishes the rock would chip before the paint.

Given the price tag around $50K anyway, for a few bucks (1-2%) more they should manufacture the chassis panels in stainless steel and forget about paint altogether.

You are complaining about well know issues. Don't expect a thing but trade in value if you trade. With the new truck, at least your headlight issues will be solved.

i will pursue the lemon law avenue before i even consider only getting trade in value.

apparently not as stupid as not being able to spell stupid! :rollin:
