Got into an accident Opinions/knowledge needed.

Hey everyone,

First off, I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this, so I apologize if this is the wrong place for this.

I got into an accident where a VW bug ran a red and hit me while I was doing a u-turn. Admittedly the dashcam footage just shows them sailin right on by and I didn't notice it as my head was stuck in the turn. (Don't know anyone who looks forward while turning.)

I already filed a insurance claim with their insurance so that should be ok.

Doesn't look like a lot of damage but I just wanted any opinions on stuff I need to look/listen out for. Taking it to get estimates on Monday.

I will be going after diminished value if I can.

(Dashcam footage)

Also as we know all threads are worthless without pics.

His and hers damage.

You had the green arrow so your in the clear. I wouldn't worry about anything. Sorry about your truck though, could've been a lot worse.

Yeah, a second or two earlier or later and I'd end up being t-boned or rear ended

After watching the dashcam footage I'm still pretty amused at how at 45-55mph (probably 55+ due to them saying they were late and rushing to their thing plus they ran a red.) that they bounced off and a headlight popped out.

What kind of camera are you using? I've been thinking of getting one just for this reason.

Is that a green arrow? Looks just like a green to me and what does the sign say next to light? Hope it doesn't say no uturn or yield.

Not saying it is your fault or anything, just curious.

Crazy how the cam picked up everything. Glad everyone is okay, sucks about the cars. I need to get a cam and also curious what you have

I bought this one.

https://www.amazon.com/AUTO-VOX-Dashboard-Capacitor-Internal-Recording/dp/B00UUQD9L6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469957323&sr=8-1&keywords=vox+dash+cam

B40C with the capacitance as I was a little worried about vegas heat baking it to death. I'm actually thinking of investing in a better one that can record both front and back. It comes with a very long cigarette plug wire that I routed into the headliner, down the A pillar (i think that's the right name), down the side of the drivers fuse box and under my floormat.

One thing I found out is that it actually drained my battery after a day or two as I didn't realize the center console's ports are permanently hot unless you swap a fuse.

It's a green arrow. The sign next to it is a double turn lane + uturn sign. http://i.imgur.com/4PnWJnw.pngLooks like that. My parents own a office about a block or two from there and I know it's a allowable uturn. (this street going west/east) The north/south one has a no uturn though.

I forgot to ask this. Does anyone have any experience with diminished value claims? I've never filed for it before as I never knew about it but it turns out Nevada is a DV state. Their insurance being infinity insurance. If that would help me get started on that.

Wow one reason why I roll with a dash am and have for almost 2 yrs now. To many people not paying attention behind the wheel

Two comments....Green does not mean Go....it means "Go when safe"! And green or not it's still failure to yield to a vehicle that has not cleared the intersection. Helen Keller could have seen that the oncoming vehicle wouldn't have been able to stop on a rain slicked street at that speed in enough time to prevent that collision.

And you can chalk me up as one of millions that do look forward and sideways while making any U-turns or any turn. And I'd erase the chip.....making a U-turn entirely within a pedestrian crosswalk, especially at night on a rain slick roadway claiming you didn't look forward in the turn isn't going to get you any safe driver award.

Hope you have collision because I wouldn't count on easily collecting from the other party's insurance.

The original poster can verify if that is an arrow or not as it is not clear in the video but the layout of the traffic lights to me indicates that traffic light has an arrow not a green light. Very clear he was moving proceeding with his u-turn way before the other car entered the intersection.

I have a dash cam on my vehicles and I was behind a truck that made a similar turn with an arrow and the car coming hit them...I stopped and waited for the police and showed the footage I had...cop said thank you very much and cited the the driver of the oncoming car.

Did she get cited for running a red light?

She did not. Two officers on patrol showed up and when I told them they said whatever. Just exchange info and stop holding up traffic.

No rain. It was a bit cloudy, but there was no rain. Also it was a green arrow, not a green with a yield. It's pretty obvious that you don't look forward while you're turning. On top of that the intersection was clear at the time I started the turn.

Yes, it is a green arrow.

Hey man, I'm blinder than Hellen Keller apparently. Also that slightly cloudy sky is rain covered and I didn't know it.

    • Thanks everyone for the help!   I'm going to stop into the scales one of these days and weigh my axels, for the time being, I am going to run Toyo's recommendations and also do a chalk test. I have a tire shop that's going to try their scanner to reprogram and set the the factory psi values lower, and if they can't I'm going to order a scanner and do it myself!
    • You won’t do better than stock exhaust without headers. Just put your favorite muffler on it and it will do the job.
    • I have seen different people in different places post different sizes of exhaust as stock for my 2014 Sierra L83. Some say 2.5 some say 2.75. I am considering replacing the muffler with a Dynomax Super Turbo, perhaps 17739.  I had the factory L83 5.3 replaced with another L83 5.3 from Jasper Engines. I also put new Walker Cat / Y pipe on. I would appreciate opinions suggestions about what would be a good muffler setup. My main interest is a low rumble and the best flow / fuel mileage I can get. Not interested in straight through glass packs or loud exhaust. Those days are way behind me now.  Thanks Guys.
    • Its coolant disguised as oil.   TSB 20-NA-166 -  20-NA-166 1..3   "To inspect for this concern, add coolant dye to the system, run the engine through warm up, pressurize the cooling system after warming the engine to operating temperature (let the engine cool overnight) and inspect the suspect cylinder with a borescope for coolant dye evidence. At times it may be necessary to remove the head for inspection. If the head casting line is the concern, the intake port will be wet with a coolant oil mix"     I'd say its the head, and its either leaking at the casting line and dripping down the intake into the cylinder, or its another spot on the casting itself at the cylinder that is getting wet.
    • Can you sample the pooled liquid, enough to confirm it is oil?   ...That its not fuel or coolant.   Also, make sure combustion gases aren't entering the cooling system.   Simply put, either oil being pushed up past the rings (this really isn't possible), oil leaking past the head gasket, oil leaking past the valve, oil entering through the intake air path. If none of this is likely - it may not be oil.   What could be likely is the fuel injector leaking down. A puddle of gas would still smoke and rough idle. (Same cylinder has the same problem after injector replacement?)   What is the crank time first thing in the morning, when the puddle would be present? Does it seem like the high pressure fuel pump needs an extra second or two to rebuild the pressure that injector 8 may have let bleed off? Check the fuel pressure via a scanner prior to starting the engine.
