Tires without changing the suspension

I would like to get larger tires (offroad) but do not want to level or lift the truck. I have 20" wheels, how large of a tire can I go??

That is not a common question, probably not the easiest to find in a search since most people do at least a 2" level before throwing tires on.

I believe I saw a while back someone was able to get 33" tires with minimal rubbing on the fenders (275 or 285 width, I can't remember) without any suspension mods.

Honestly a 2" level is like $50 while tires are going to be a grand easily. I would find the tires you want and then figure out if you need a small level to fit them or not!

That is a very common question, a quick search showed 10+ different threads asking the same question. While leveling is by far more popular many upgrade tires then later level so they want to know.

Good advice though, find the size and match it as leveling is cheap and easy.

Search around OP, you will find tons of info on that question; more so than starting a new thread. Once people do it and answer it they tend not to repeat them selves all too often or not post much. So the best information might be from a year and a half ago from someone who doesn't post anymore...

On 20's you can go to a 275/60R20 without rubbing on most tires. I had Dueler AT Revo 2s and they didn't rub, but I think the KO2's rub in that size. 33.0" is the limit.

I don't think you should put R22 tires on 20" rims personally :driving:

Agreed -- I searched incessently and came up with a multitude of options and experiences. And tire size for a stock suspension was all over the map. It seemed that consensus was 275/60/20, although now I will probably go with a Fox setup and a little bigger on the tires.

Don't forget, you move up that much from the stock size it is going to throw the speed/odometer off as well.

285 55 20 Hankook Dynapros will run on stock height . They put them on and ran it around the shop before level and they said there was no rub without the lift. I wanted the 2 inch RC level though because the front sat too low for my liking.

275 60 20's will run stock too, they are typically a P rated tire so that's why I went with the 285 which is a 10 ply. (I drive a lot of gravel and off-road use, need the 10 ply. 10 ply's have deeper tread lugs too.)

9,700 miles on the truck and I'm very happy with the tires (put them on along with the level at 500 miles). Quite, great in snow, flawless in mud, awesome on highway, and look good. Very small hit in mpg in city, highway no hit at all. Sitting at an all time average of 18.2 mpg through the 9,700 miles (only flaw I can think of and really isn't a big deal, but the tires really like to throw rocks, but are flush with fenders so not a huge concern.)

Stock 275x55x20 = 31.9 x 11.2

285x55x20 = 32.4 x 11.7 (.5 inches higher and .5 inches wider than stock)

275x60x20 = 33 x 11 (1.1 inches higher than stock, but slightly narrower)

Really depends on your driving conditions on what to go with.
