On a more serious note. This is not how you sell a NEW truck. Hope they fix it for you.

Pretty sure I seen that exact car in Vernon BC. Is that close to correct?

Edit: OK wow so that is a factory Paintjob for a VW Golf 'Harlequin', yes someone actually had the idea that this was a marketable idea. I assume they now cry themselves to sleep each night these days.

I looked into it and as long as the repair is under $1500 then they don't have to inform the buyer of the damage. Unreal... Their has to be a way to match this better.... Black cars get in accidents and are able to get painted.... I will try to upload pics, but forum says they are too large to upload....

That is correct, dealer associations are strong and many states have laws like that. If they had to disclose all the lot/transport damage a LOT of new.cars would never sell. Its very common for cars to be damaged, even before they get loaded onto a train or truck.

Its pretty obvious by the pics you posted and the dealer should make it right, black is not as easy to mach as you would think but thats not even close. If the dealer has their own body shop then they should be able to fix that in a day or two. If not find out where they sent it to get repainted and try to deal with the body shop directly. Also some transport companies have their own repair shops to fix cars they screwed up and the dealer may not even know.

Either way its not right and it needs to be fixed.

This will be the 3rd coat of paint on these panels... I have heard that the more coats of paint the worse off you are. Is this true? Any paint gurus want to chime in as why? Thx 8

Get a lawyer. They will know you are serious. They will acquiesce. They do have a duty to disclose things to you if they are known. I think it is called detrimental reliance. You relied on their presentation to your detriment and are now engaged in a legally bound financial arrangement. You could not turn around and sell the same said vehicle without disclosing that fact or incurring a financial loss. Hence you have been financially harmed and have damages. Any good lawyer will find some clause somewhere that will help you. Laws are always up for interpretation especially when it comes to the reasonable person standard. Here's my .02 of opinion on this....

In my case, MD law was anything over $400. which I argued covers anything above a scratch. But, in this case how much do you suppose the repair was to the door panel? How serious was the defect necessitating repair? Work necessary to complete the original repair by further by re-spraying the panel to attempt top match or blending by spraying additional panels should easily put it over the $1500. Don't let this guy off easy. Could have been a dent, crease or significant wack that required replacement of internal components, complete replacement of the door skin itself, or damage to the interior side reinforcement panel, a new, not re-glued old emblem, is about $70!, The dealer owes an accounting to the owner because the damage may have exceeded $1500. where he would be in violation of the law. If unwilling to supply a complete accounting or compensation then a complaint is warranted with legal authorities who can perform an investigation to confirm or deny owner's complaint of suspicions of a repair exceeding $1500. in violation of the law. Notice of intent to seek an official inquiry into what had gone on at the dealership might provide the motivation to step up to the plate and compensate the owner accordingly.

The value of the vehicle has already been compromised and repeated resprays unless taken down to the metal will make it worse because multiple paint coats will cause it to "alligator" (micro cracking) with age, and will likely not match under all lighting conditions anyway.

The only way to perfectly and permanently fix the current vehicle is to swap the door with a same color new vehicle and transfer panels if necessary. Once had a dealer swap hoods to make a sale on my sister's Toyota, but that was before the sale and wasn't a case where the dealer would have to resticker to recertify the driver door VIN numbers. Of course a swap would screw another buyer who gets the door, but then it is up to the dealer to reveal the defect and compensate accordingly like should have been offered to the original owner.

In the state of WI they can damage up to 6% of the MSRP of the new vehicle and NOT tell the customer. Just spoke with the Dealer Licensing Division of the DMV. So my vehicle stickers for $46K... so roughly $2800 of damage can go unreported. Totally ridiculous impo.

As of now they are gonna repaint the panels so they match.... We will see how it turns out. If it looks shitty i will get a lawyer.

So what did the dealer tell you when you advised them the paint didn't match??

They said to bring it back and they would repaint the door and the passenger side of the bed again and make it perfect. I plan on taking it in when i get home from work in 2 weeks. I talked to a friend that owns a body shop and he didn't feel real good about a 3rd coat of paint on those panels. But i have to get it matched....it looks ridiculous.

They can sand the clear off then the paint. There's not much paint. The mils is in the clear and is where the build up is.

I was originally going to allow the dealer to fix it properly, until I caught them cutting corners and lying to me. At that point, I told them they can either buy my truck back or I would sue them for fraud and/or lemon law. They bought the truck back the next day and ordered me a brand new one. I had the truck for 6 days. The dealer tried to get me to take the truck after they repaired it, but the color match was just as bad as your truck. They need to blend the paint into the adjacent panels, but decided to minimize their costs instead.

Me too, bought a new 2007 2500HD duramax and the drivers door was obviously repainted. Not only the color was off (black) but you could see sanding scratches, buffer marks etc. Bought it at night when it was cold, you know, assumed it was a new truck.

Noticed it the next day and they accused me of damaging and repainting it, saying their body shop would never do such a crappy job. Then they realized I had it less than 24 hours and most likely I didnt damage and paint it in one day. Then they blamed the transport company and GM, I had to talk to GM people and swear I didnt damage it. After about a month and a few resprays that looked worse every time they finally gave me a different truck, in the long run it wasnt worth the aggravation since I used the truck as a work truck but all I wanted was the dealer to admit they messed it up - which they claimed they knew nothing about about until the end.

Its rare you can get a dealer to replace the truck without a lawyer and a lot of aggravation, its not rare to buy a new car/truck without some kind of lot or transport damage. Big lesson is look over any new car/truck very well BEFORE you buy it, because body/paint issues you notice the next day are not going to be easy to rectify.
