External Temp Display Stuck

Anyone have their temp display ever get stuck on a reading and not change? I noticed it on my way home from Portland. The external temp display would not move off of 76 degrees and I knew for a fact that was not the outside temp. Now, no matter what, it just displays 76.

Is this data that is being streamed in via OnStar connection, or is there a physical sensor on the rig somewhere that measures the ext temp?

Thanks!

Ambient temp sensor is attached to the core support behind the grille.

There is a sensor. Maybe try to unhook the battery for a few minutes. Otherwise, perhaps the sensor is bad and it just displays the last known good reading? Not sure.

Had this happen after a carwash. Seems like the sensor was wet and stayed wet for a while. After it dried it was fine.

mine gets stuck occasionally, especially after washing. Usually it starts working again after an hour or so but one time it was stuck on 69 for days (seriously ;-) ). I need to ask the dealer about this next time I go there.

As said, it is a physical sensor. Make sure nothing is obscuring it. It works by heating a filament up to a certain temp and then when air flows over it uses a calculation to determine the actual temp by how much energy it takes to keep the filament heated up to the set temp.

That's gotta be it! Was working fine until a high pressure no touch car wash....boom, good call!

Thanks all!

Can't say mine has been "stuck" but it does appear that it often doesn't jive with the outside temp very well.

May have that looked at during my first oil change.
