Removing Door Trim on Sierra

Recommended Posts

I am looking at possibly buying this 2014 Sierra. I'm not sure what you call the chrome trim that is along the bottom of the doors, and though they don't look bad on a silver truck, I think I'd like to remove them. A few questions: 1) Are they hard to take off, and how do you remove them; 2) If I try to remove them, will the paint on the doors behind the trim be ruined?

Thanks

Do not have those. Do not believe they are even a stock option .... maybe.

99.99% chance it is held on with double sided tape. Use heat gun and a nylon pan scrapper along with WD-40 to slowly and gently pull it up and apply heat and WD-40 as you go. Paint should be ok as long as you are careful but I highly doubt that chrome peice(s) will be resusable or sellable after (maybe if they come off super easy and dont bend but lining them up again would royally suck since something like that is put on all at once typically just like lettering).

IMO if you are getting it form a dealership just ask them to remove it before delivery, should be free to take off.

2nd on having on having the dealer remove them

not a factory option.

If you sign the paperwork on the truck, they should remove it if you want.
That way if they damage your paint they can fix it on their dime

took mine off. Using fishing line and heat gun. Hair dryer might work as well. Heat the trim and take the fishing line and scissor the trim off. Then whats left is the adhesive. I used a 3m eraser wheel to remove the tape. Can do by hand, but be prepared for a long process. Then will need to polish the area afterwards. With silver paint you barely notice the damage. I have black,so needed to polish the paint a little. Looks great without the trim imo.

I would just ask the dealer to have it removed if you do decide to buy this truck. That chrome panel is held on by pretty strong automotive double sided tape. If you pull hard on it, the tape will pull the paint off as well. Heat gun and fishing line work great, but removing all that glue adhesive will take time to make it look right. Just insist the dealer do it as part of the deal.

I personally wouldn't have some kid making $10/HR mess with my truck. Just take some 12lb test fishing line and remove them yourself. Buy an eraser wheel and the adhesive will come off easily. Tons of vids on YouTube showing how to use an eraser wheel. I use an off brand one for under $10 and it's been great on all the vehicles I've used it on before.

Those are not stock, they should come off and just need some adhesive removal.
