First time Chevrolet customer

The first Chevy truck I owned was a 99 Silverado. Got it used with about 76,000 miles on it. Only had one major issue with it and that was the rear diff/G80 blowing up. It was a great truck and I liked it very much. I then purchased my first new vehicle, 2007 GMC Sierra. Absolutely loved it. Black, extended cab, Z71, 5.3L. Solid truck. Only one issue with it and that is everything powered by the battery would cut out randomly, out of the blue, no pattern to it. Happened maybe 4 or 5 times. The engine would keep running if it happened while I was driving, and then everything would come back on after about 10-15 seconds or so. If the engine was not running, then there was nothing at all I could do except wait for it to come back to life. Dealer went over everything with a fine toothed comb several times, and I even got stuck wtih the tow bill once when it wouldn't do anything and was completely dead, yet when they got it to the dealership it ran just fine. I traded it in after a few years on a 2008 Sierra 2500 Duramax that only had 9000 miles on it. LOVED it. Best truck I've ever owned, right next to my 2007. No issues with it at all. I on the other hand had the issues, thinking I didn't need such a big truck after all and thought I could pay off my medical bills faster by having a lower car payment. DUMB DUMB DUMB. I should never have gotten rid of it. I got me a 2013 Impala for 3 years, and while it was a great car and lots of fun to drive (no turbo lag, and plenty of pep, haha) I realized I needed a truck more than I needed a car. Got my 2012 Duramax earlier this year. Didn't have all the bells and whistles that my 2008 had, but got it for a good deal. However- I feel so so with this 2012. It's biggest problem- The stupid diesel emissions system. Really robs the thing of power/pep and have had a lot of issues. Thankfully I got an aftermarket warranty and it still has the factory power train warranty which has already fixed some leaks here and there. But I just don't have as good of a feeling about the 2012. I'm sure if I had owned it since new, it would be different, but eh. I'm giving some thought into trading it in for another truck, perhaps a 1/2 ton Silverado in a few years. We'll see. But I know this much- After having driven Ford, Dodge, and GM trucks for previous jobs, the GM trucks are the best in my opinion. I really like the look of the Dodge, but- Chrysler is plagued with poor reliability and low resale. I'd still take a Dodge over the Ford, hands down, because the Fords feel and drive like little cheap tonka toys. And are ugly.

West- My family has owned GM's since 1968, and a lot of them in the late 80's and 90's when I was a kid. We also had some Toyotas and such. GM was lacking in quality and starting upping their game in the early 2000's. But I honestly don't think they really pushed it until recently with the new Impala, new K2XX truck, etc. Before it was like GM was always reactive to the competitors, one generation behind. Now they are on par if not slightly ahead. It's the first time I've seen it. I agree

I agree. GM has really upped the game with their cars, it is nice to see. Although the styling leaves a lot to be desired. Like the 2014+ Impala and now the 2016 Malibu. And the Cadi's. Great powertrains and interiors, but they have got to do something about the ass ends on those cars. The fronts aren't so bad. Also- Because GM has had a so-so reputation with their cars for so long, it's going to take a long time to earn new customers and prove on paper their vehicles are more reliable and worth something.

Just think, some folks go their entire lives without a GM vehicle. Welcome to the GM family!

It's all good to hear! It just blows my mind that I have family and friends who will not even think about GM products. And I kindly tell them you could get a Chevrolet with more options and quieter, smoother riding car with a lower price than the Nissan or whatever Japanese thing they buy that rips em off! I guess I am still the only one on the planet who has never had a engine or Transmission replaced in a GM product. Apparently everybody else has...........

I had a transmission replaced in an 84 S-10 blazer at 120k miles. Other than that, every other GM product has been run to 150K+ on all original drivetrain and not a single time walking. (83,84.85.93,97), all in the "junk" years.

 

Blame it on those review publications. For years they couldn't find a GM product that was worth buying for any price and it's been parroted around that "GM=junk" by people who have no clue.

It's not just publications. Everybody know somebody else that's owned a GM that's had multiple issues. Same with Fords and Chrysler's as well. Not nearly as many people know someone who's owned a Toyota, Nissan, or Honda that's been a bucket of problems. You could argue that it's because the Big 3 sell more vehicles, but I do think there's a difference in quality, at least with the cars.

 

I travel a lot for work and end up with all kinds of different rental cars and SUV's. The GM or Ford SUV's are just as nice, or even nicer than the Japanese or Korean counterparts. But there's no comparison with cars, I don't think there's a "domestic" car out there I'd own over a Japanese car. In one year I had 3 different 2011-12 Impala's that were downright scary to drive, I refused to rent another after those.

saw that many people had done the add on from an ebay visor homelink so i decided to make a video to share on how i did mine. hope this will help someone out on their project. it was not very hard to do and only cost about $9 it works very well and you need almost no tools. you dont even have to cut any wires no no void of warranty.
