First time Chevrolet customer

I picked up a 16 Silverado 1500 double cab LT 5.3 in silver ice metallic. I've never owned a full size pickup before. This is also the first time I've ever bought a GM product, and I have to admit I am impressed. I considered getting a colorado but when I looked at the price, I figured I could get a full size for not too much more. I also looked at Ford and Ram. I didn't like that Fords bed is aluminum and did not like the ecoboost engines. Ram was too bloated looking. In the end, the silverado just seemed like the most practical, real truck I could find, and thats what I was looking for.

I've had 1500 trouble free miles so far.

The issues I have with the truck are minor but worth mentioning. First, the flex in the plastic bracket that holds the gas pedal assembly--I had to put a wood shim behind the bracket to prevent flex--this resulted in the gas pedal feeling far less spongy. I got that idea from a thread on this forum (thanks to those who contributed there). And speaking of the gas pedal, it is placed much further away than the brake pedal. I had to buy a gas pedal "Extender" because I couldn't find a good seat position. Now that my pedals are equal distance away, I can find my perfect distance away and leave it (that was super annoying). I wish the Mylink screen had an auto-screen-off feature. It's big and a little annoying.

Things I love--fit, finish, feels super solid, composed on the road, getting 22-23 mpg, 5.3L really pulls, 6 speed auto is great. Cabin is dead quiet. Honestly, it's kind of making me wish my other car was a GM too.

They produce enough of them to know how to make a good vehicle, especially in the truck segment. And after the 08'/09' crash they really came back with a vengeance. They're pretty much on par with the Japanese companies now and have better features to boot. I've owned an 04' Trailblazer, which was my favorite vehicle ever, until I bought my 15' Sierra. Love it. I've had 2 Tundras, a Corolla, a Camry, a Maxima and a crappy Hyundai Accent. By far the best is my current truck. Glad you're enjoying your purchase. Hope you have many happy miles, trouble free!

Protovack- Kudos on the new truck. And your welcome for the gas pedal shim idea! When I posted that up I had no idea it would catch on like that. I like your comment about the RAM being bloated... exact reason I walked away from it along with a few other small dislikes. I bought my '14 K2XX and then 7 months later bought my wife a '15 Enclave under the march madness discounts, got rid of the cracker box '12 CRV. So far we've been very happy with both.

Good to hear. You'll see far more negative stuff on these forums than positive stuff. That's simply because if something goes wrong, people are more likely to complain and make a point of it. I've had great luck with my truck! Nothing major and I love the way it drives. Great mileage, power, cabin space, features, etc. The list goes on.

GM has been "on par" with the Japanese since the mid-90s. Drive a Camry and an Impala back to back, it's no contest. Same for the Accord. And it's no contest against the Altima/Maxima. For the media GM is a whipping boy. IMO, they've had superior engineering for drivetrains since the early 90s, and finally beat them in interiors in the last 5-6 years.

I am also a first time truck & Chevy owner. I am very impress with the truck. I purchased a $42k LT, it actually got more features than my $90k bmw 6 series. Real world mpg and cabin noise is better than my previous Honda Odyssey.

Not first time GM owner, but first time truck owner too and I couldn't be happier. Got a 16 Sierra SLT crew with the 6.2 and coming from a Cadillac ATS, I feel this truck might be nicer overall. Rides almost as nice and the interior might even be nicer. Surprisingly the caddy only got me 19-20 mpg and I'm getting 18 out of the Sierra.

Good deal. Congrats on the new truck. I am also really enjoying mine. As you said, a few minor annoyances, but nothing major. These new 5.3s really pull strong with the 6 speed. My truck is the best pulling truck I've ever owned and that includes a 99 ford super duty and a 97 dodge ram 2500. These are great trucks.

When i was looking, i never even test drove the Dodge after sitting in one. The interior was very cheap compared to the Chevrolet. The ford was nice, but they would not work with me on the new 15s last year. Plus, I've not really liked ford's engines since they moved away from the pushrod v8s. Just my preference. Good luck with it. I'm up over 9k and nearing a year and a half now with no major problems

West- My family has owned GM's since 1968, and a lot of them in the late 80's and 90's when I was a kid. We also had some Toyotas and such. GM was lacking in quality and starting upping their game in the early 2000's. But I honestly don't think they really pushed it until recently with the new Impala, new K2XX truck, etc. Before it was like GM was always reactive to the competitors, one generation behind. Now they are on par if not slightly ahead. It's the first time I've seen it.
