I just put a pypes violator catback on my brothers 2016 1500 cc 4wd z71. Fit and sound are good, it's not too loud and has a good deep tone. Interior noise is very minimal, however he does not like the drone around 1800 rpm when it goes into 4 cylinder mode. Anyone got a solution, cant do a tune to shut off AFM not an option for him., I'm thinking about either resonators on the tailpipes near the tips or possibly a J pipe. If I cant get rid of the drone he wants to put the stock back on, if I can, then I can put some sweet ass black z28 rectangular tips on it.

Just get the Range AFM/DOD disable device. It just plugs into the OBD port (no programing). It keeps it in V8 mode all the time.

Tunes void warranty, a Range won't!

I know that but to me its totally worth it. How many people have had any issues with them anyway, I know I haven't.

Tunes don't automatically void warranties. They have to show the vehicle was operating outside of normal parameters to refuse a warranty repair. If you don't go crazy or disable TC it is highly unlikely a tune will cause an issue.

That's good to know. If I do go 1509

Thank you. So, if I do end up with another 1500 for my next truck, a tune that only disables AFM should not give me any warranty issues?

Why spend the money on a tuner, when all you're going to do is disable AFM? Just get a Range AFM disable device and call it a day. I've been running one for almost a year with no issues. If your truck is going to sit for 2 or more days, you need to unplug it so it won't drain your battery.

That's exactly why I am going to get a tuner. Do it once and its done. No worries of forgetting, especially when I am up north for a few days with the truck sitting.

A tuner is handy for more than just tuning, can be used to read and clear codes.

I Ordered a Hypertech Max Energy 2.0 Programmer

2016 GMC Sierra

(6.2L V8)

Part #: 2000 today from AutoAnything. They state on their website AND in a email back to my question today that this unit has the ability to set a minimum speed for AFM to engage. I am thinking maybe 60mph. I like a lot of others that have installed dual exhaust (mine is the GM Borla) are annoyed by the Huey Helicopter that hovers behind our truck when the AFM kicks in at low speeds LOL. The GM Borla masks it pretty good but the tone is different and to me is not acceptable. Wish me luck, I will try to remember to come back and update this thread I got free overnight shipping so it should be in hand tomorrow.

I use the Range and never have unplugged it and have not had a problem with my battery. Even before the dual battery setup. My wife runs one on her truck as well and never had an issue, Hers sits for days because when we go on trips we take my truck.

No drone w/ my Borla. (of coarse I keep it in M5 at all times!) M5 is still 0.85:1, good overdrive ratio for me.

Well simple answer is to turn AFM off or install a flapper valve like they have in the stock exhaust.

As for the tune or Range device. If all you want to do is turn AFM off then use the Range, but a tune or tuner you can get a lot more out of the money you spend. In other words, you get more for what you pay for.

I honestly don't mind the V4 drone with my Flowmaster Super 44. I know a lot say it sounds like a helicopter. To me it sounds way more like an exhaust/Jake brake on a commercial truck and I happen to love that sound. Should have seen the smile on my face when I tried out trucking and was in the mountains. I may have been steadily shifting, but the sound was awesome. Hell if I ever get a tune I may not even disable AFM. I figure the V4 drone doesn't bother me and I know it doesn't turn your truck into a 4 cylinder when it comes to actual mileage but it can't make mileage worse.
