Okay, I don't get this. Perhaps it is the other X chromosome that I have. I see thread after thread of guys that buy these expensive, beautiful trucks , then have this insane need to start modifying them. Now I am not talking about a bedliners or a tool box. I am not even talking about doing a leveling kit (within reason). I am talking major changes that involve invalidating the warranty. Perhaps I am out of my league in the price point for these trucks, but I don't have the money to do major modification, especially ones that is going to cancel the warranty.

Well even though I haven't done anything major to mine, I just can't stand a stock vehicle. The handguns I have I couldn't stand keeping 100% factory.

The people with a lot of big high priced mods either just have the money or they finance or use a credit card. I know some shops that do aftermarket stuff are starting to let you finance with them so you just pay them payments.

This '14 was my first brand new truck so at first I was a little worried about doing anything to void the warranty. For me it was one of those things where the first thing was a little hard but after that I don't care if it voids the warranty because GM has to prove that your mod is what made a part go bad. So if you want to do something to change the truck then just do it, don't worry about the warranty.

I'm with you. I always add running boards, or bars, and ventvisors. A camper shell or hard tonneau to keep stuff dry. And a bedliner, that last 3 rigs I've had a got a bed rug for the bedliner.

And that's pretty much it.

The 2015 crew cab 2500HD duramax I just traded for already has factory boards, factory bed rug, factory fold up hard tonneau. If I can force myself to quit smoking I'll do without the ventvisors this time.

I think I would like to have a piece of that clear protective plastic installed over the front edge of my hood too I guess.

If you were really so practical that you just wanted a stock vehicle why would you not just buy basic transportation to start with?

So what exactly ARE you referring to as these mods that are so risky? Examples?

Money is neither Made nor Destroyed it is just Redistributed so what is the big deal?

By the way a 2.3 Magnuson Supercharger professionally installed dyno tuned is only around $10,000.00 is that a lot?

Right On, my first truck was a 6, three on the tree, am radio etc. so we are all over doing it comparable speaking.

It has noting to do with the male chromosome.

Women do the same thing, maybe not with their trucks and guns, but the first thing that women want men to do when they start a "relationship", is to "change and get better". Dress differently (the way THEY want us to), act differently (don't use THOSE words anymore), give up OUR friends and start hanging out with their wack-o family, etc., etc.

People want to remake the things they have into things that fit them better. Some have the ability to change anything themselves, others have to pay to have it done, others have to just make do with what they can buy.

My fiance asks questions like "Why do you still have that truck?", "Why do you need so many (insert noun here: guns, backpacks, bicycles, motorcycles, tools, etc.)"

The answer to everything is NOT 42, it is simply:

BECAUSE

I see your point about basic back when and basic vs upgraded vehicles of today. I also understand that vehicles are a consumer driven products that the marketplace will meet the consumer wants and needs and the manufacturer will quickly follow to capture that part of the market. Hence the navigation systems, onstar, bedliners, etc.

And yes a dyno tune for 10,000.00 is a LOT of money.

I am talking about the special tunes, changing out tires and wheels within a week or two of purchase. Lifting that involves several inches (hard on the drivetrain), disconnecting the DEF system ( my son did that one)

Hey aside from steps/running boards to help my dear sweet old mother getting into the truck (and myself as I get older) as well as a spray in bed liner, I keep my truck mostly stock. I actually think they look great the way they do stock. If they didn't, I wouldn't have purchased one. But the great thing about living in the countries that we do, we still have the freedom to be able to modify to our pleasing. People want to be different, let them. (within reason, the redneck exhaust stacks and those silly long ass brake light bars along the bottom of the tailgate need to go!, just sayin)

I'm redneck and I honestly have no problem with stacks as long as it's on a diesel. And believe it or not I can't stand people that "roll coal". I can deal with the LED lights between the tailgate and bumper. I just don't care for extra lights mounted in wheel wells or the floor or anything like that. Maybe lights just for step bars so you can see to get in is fine. What I can't stand is the Autozone stuff. I also don't like low pro tires on a lifted truck, doesn't make much sense to me. I like actual tire sidewall. I also don't like stretched tires where you put a tire that's too narrow for the rim.

I'm with you too. I am not buying a new truck to work on it, that's why I buy new, or close to new. It's my daily driver, so not looking to create problems.

I agree. Yes, rolling coal is bad for the engine. Over fuelling is never good, and the reason the epa hates diesels.
