First of all I have had factory satellite radios since 2005. I just got a new 2017 LTZ crew cab 4X4. I have been driving the same route to work for over 3 years in south KC area. My previous truck was 2014 F150 Lariat. I listen to a lot of College Sports Radio. I have noticed on this new truck that in certain areas of my drive the broadcast will cut out. Now mind you not overhead trees or anything like that and the same route same station on my Ford never had any issues.

 

So does it sound like I have a bad antenna? Does any of y'all have issues like this with spotty coverage? I have also noticed it around the airport north of town.

 

Just wanted to ask if anyone else is having issues?

Yep! Sometimes like AM radio when driving through a tunnel. I also have the same exact places on my commute that it cuts out every time. Look around and there isn't any reason for it, but it happens.

It seems all manufactures are having this problem. I have a dodge durango which is a Sirius radio and i lose reception in the same areas where my older jeep had always had service. I think it has to do with the type of antennas used for the service now.

Never had any issues with mine, but then again I only listen to it during XM's "Free Preview Weeks." I'd chalk it up to "solar flares?" Are you driving on the north faces of mountains? Trees along the south side of the roads you're traveling? The satellites are not directly above us, they are off in the southern part of the sky.

Has anyone else been having issues with XM over the past few weeks only? I generally have solid reliable signal where I live, no overhead obstructions, lots of out in the open driving. Yet at times, most noticeably in the evening and early morning hours, the signal will drop out for a few seconds or up to 45 seconds to a full minute or two and then come back. This is especially noticeable between 11:30PM and 2:00AM Mountain time. It wasn't doing this in the past. I've never had reception issues on any of my trucks and cars with XM. There was talk that XM had filed a complaint with the FCC over T-Mobile I believe- operating things on their cell towers that were jamming/interfering with the satellite signal. I know that sun spots can be a cause of issue, maybe we are going thru a high sun spot phase right now? (I would know this if I were the good ham radio operator that I am not, haha) or perhaps the equipment up in orbit is getting old or as we have moved into fall and are moving into winter, perhaps the tilt of the planet's axis is taking it a bit out of range of the satellite at times? So many possibilities. I love my XM Radio can't stand listening to FM anymore and only listen to AM on Saturdays for some of the automotive, hunting/outdoors, and gardening talk shows. I've been much happier not having to listen to the commercial crap and constant DJ nagging! So nice.

I am like you. Had XM for years over several vehicles WITH never a problem. My 2016 does the same as yours in wide open areas. Had it in twice' once the reprogrammed it and installed an update, second time they replaced the antenna. Problem still there. Resigned myself to the fact of a crappy radio and I'll just ha've to live with it.

Mine has spotty reception also. Randomly cuts out. Never had this trouble on my other vehicles.

I just searched for this issue...my previous chevy, '09, had zero issues with the xm/sirius radio. The '16 reception sucks. Cuts out at ALL times of the day in various locations. NEVER had issues with the '09. Only problem I can find with the truck so far. Guess Sirius won't be getting my business until someone fixes this.

My 17 does it too, station just goes blank for as much as 30 seconds then comes back, is there any type of signal booster available? i can't see paying for this spotty reception. I dont live in the woods or a cave either. metropolitan city where reception should be great.

I actually contacted Sirius about this a few days ago...they have some online questionaire you can fill out. They claim that they reset the radio in my truck and all is right with the world. I dunno...as the name implies, I'm offshore and have no idea. Not sure if I will renew or not just to find out. I've heard they're working on replacing old satellites and this is the reason for spotty service in certain regions.

      I have thought an EV might have some practical value in extending the life of the ICE members of ones fleet. Now....I'm convinced of it. I've been letting my better half access Raven (Mitsubishi Mirage) for her needs while Dizzy has been in the shop. Being the fuel freak I am and given the fact Raven is capable of over 60 mpg in clean air on a warm day I was taken back by the wife's ability to take a car that had used a half a tank of gas that to that point had returned a value of 57 mpg and return in with a decimating 51 mpg for that same tank in that same day in a 15 mile round trip of short hop errands and a stop in the drive through at Micky D's.  😱   Trust me on this. It would take the remainder of that tank driven on the highway to return that tank to just 54 mpg. This is not a Mitsubishi issue. This is an ICE issue that is magnified in vehicles capable of such high fuel economy values. On a percentage basis your 1500 does the same thing. Short hopping an ICE consumes a good deal more fuel and in doing so provides zero additional useable outputs. That entire volume of fuel is wasted in diluting the cylinder walls oil films, creating crankcase moisture and acid content and the resultant wear.    Enter the SLATE. All of that is avoided and the ICE's advantage in range and made useful at reduced wear for your ICE!   Kind'a cool.

      Back in the day people would buy cars based on performance. The charger posted does 0-60 in 3.3 seconds. And it’s fully loaded.  It has a decent warranty and will fit most anyone’s needs. Remember the original Hemi? 90 day warranty. 25K mini truck or that car? I’d go with the car. It wouldn’t fit my perimeter. If I could just talk my wife out of her Genesis. It would be perfect for her.

      The Charger EV was stillborn. Wrong car at the wrong price for Dodge's intended audience. Now at a good price with fire-sale discounts, and still not selling, it's still very much the wrong car. Again, Dodge's intended audience. I believe a lot of Stellantis' EV blunders were all under Tavares' regime at Stellantis...the board convinced him to move on. Neat car, just wasn't received on the level that would sustain mass production.   Dodge is headed in a better direction for its core business. I didn't think there was anything left to get excited about re: the Durango after its 15 year run, but they're just now releasing a 392 version that should price out in the low 40's. Nicely done. I'm not sure I would touch anything Stellantis makes with a 10' pole these days, but the Durango is still mostly parts designed like 3 parent companies ago so maybe it's still OK?
