Navigation Question

I have a 2016 Sierra SLT with navigation. I've gone all over that infotainment center trying to find a way to enter lattitude and longitude coordinates to set for destination. I see it was available on some of the 2015 models. Has this been discontinued for 2016?

On my 2016 the only way to use navigation is either call OnStar and have them send it to my vehicle, or use the OnStar Chevy app on my cell phone, enter the address on there and it sends it to my truck. No way to input any sort of directions on the truck itself.

2 different systems. On-star navigation is separate from the GM factory radio navigation is what he is referring to. You can have both in the higher trim trucks or if ordered in the lower trim levels.

OP To answer your question. I have not seen the option to enter coordinates into the 16 nav system either.

Ahh ok. I have the LT with 8" screen. Wish I had real nav or at the very least Android auto

The factory nav is not all it's cracked up to be. I use my iphone and siri directions with apple car play all the time now. My truck just happened to have the factory option nav. I would not have ordered it that way.

Agreed about the factory nav not being the world's greatest. I do use it from time to time, but sometimes it takes me via routes I know are neither the shortest or fastest (which you can adjust in the settings). It can be nice to have up on the display just to see crossroads and such if I already have a general idea where I'm going. I will play with it today to see if I can input coordinates somehow as I have a late build 2015.

I can do it with my 2017, not sure about a 2016. You create a CSV file with POIs entered as latitude and longitude, download the file to the truck under MyPOIs, and then set your destination to one of the POIs you created. Details are on page 70 of the 2017 Infotainment manual.

Same in my Infotainment. I was just looking for a direct imput without creating the file.

Thanks

If you have the Android Auto / Apple carplay update then just use Google maps on your phone and screen mirror it to the infotainment screen. While I have the NAV upgrade, Google maps is a way better option.

I tried the USB stick method of entering lat/lon etc into my 2015 Danali Nav system. It goes through all the motions just like advertised, but never shows up under myPOI's. I agree that it would be great to just be able to enter lat/lon coordinates into the system manually. I would have posted earlier but GM has had my truck for a week and a half installing a new Torque Converter.

Exactly my experience. Nothing beats a Garmin.

The following works in my 2017 Silverado:

1. The root folder in the USB drive has to be named “myPOIs” EXACTLY without the “” quotations.

2. The format in the Owners Manual is incorrect (miss print?). The correct format does not have quote marks, uses a negative sign ( - ) to indicate West longitude, and does not have spaces around the commas.

Example: -90.123456,36.654321,Somewhere Interesting

3. After you get the text entered, you will save the text document, as a ".csv" file in the "myPOIs" folder with any name you want, but you MUST add "POI" at the end of the name.

Example “Interesting Places POI.csv”

4. Finally, download the file as shown in the manual.

Final thoughts on the Navigation System. It works very well for a specific address, intersection or preloaded poi's. The lack of easy imput of coordinates on the destination page is kind of a dissappointment. I know you can and have figured it out. but honestly not worth all the hassle. Thankfully they put a spacious console in these trucks. The Garmin is always there for the special occurrences when I need it.
