Since every manufacturer acts like their tire is the greatest thing ever created, anybody with experience with multiple tire brands care to offer advice? Main concerns are noise and snow performance. Which one is closest to a highway tire in sound level? And although it's not frequent, sometimes I have to drive home 23 miles in multiple inches of snow late at night when the plows aren't really trying to keep up. Which one is the most sure footed? And why the heck are the Wranglers so much more expensive than all the others? My only tire experience is with oem stuff (Wrangler ATS, Michelin LTX, And now Wrangler SRA)

The Wrangler Duratrac is in a different class then the Toyo. Much more aggressive than the Toyo which is just an AT. Several brands have tires like the Duratrac now and there's no real name for them but they split the difference between a mud tire and the AT. They're supposed to be excellent in snow and I'd expect the Toyo to do decent in snow too- siping (the small, wiggly cuts in the tread) are what give the tire traction in the snow. So because of that, I'd expect (and this is strictly judging by how the tread looks, not from any experience) the Cooper to be worst in snow. The Toyo will probably be the quietest and they've also got a reputation for being very easy to balance compared to other brands.

I ran the Dura-tracs thru 2 winters here in Ontario (tires on the truck year round). I was happy w/ the winter use, mind you last winter sucked snow-wise. If there's snow on the roads, the truck is in 4 Hi.

 

There didn't appear to be a lot of wear & the tires may be slightly louder than the OEM tires, but nothing obtrusive. I've run Gumbo Monster Mudders (now Super Swampers) in the past, so any tire is quiet to my ear.

I have ran several sets of the Duratracs and I like them. No snow in South GA but they served me well. Louder than a BFG but not as loud as any mud tire. I know alot of people like the Toyos, my brother included, but they just don't look good, aesthetically I mean. The Coopers look nice and I have ran several sets over the years, no real issues with them. I would tell you to also look at the Ridge Grappler which is similar to the Duratrac, and of course the BFG ATKO2.

I've been running a similar Cooper to the AT3's (ATP) and I like the snow performance... IMO the ST Maxx wouldn't be great in the snow, not enough siping. You might check out the Cooper ATW, it's basically an AT3 with a snow bias.

Anyone able to comment on the Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain Adventure Kevlar? I am also looking at the same AT's as the op. I've been told that these may be quiet like my current HT's.
