Mystery suspension issue

I stated this in my '14 vs '17 thread but now I am really baffled and want to find a solution.

So basically I took my'14 dbl cab 6.2 in for service and drove around '17 crew cab 5.3 for 3 days. The problem is when I hit a pothole or bump the '17 takes it much more smoothly. The impact absorption is much softer on the '17. 100% confirmed when I got back in my truck. Someone mentioned it could be my shocks being blown, but I don't see how that would make the ride firmer.

My '14 feels like it has stiffer suspension. If anybody here drove it they would absolutely agree. Best way I can describe it is the '14 feels like it has 2500 suspension by comparison.

Both are slt all terrains

Both have rancho shocks

Both have factory goodyear sra's

Both have 33-34psi in all 4 tires.

'17 2000 miles, '14 32,000 miles

'14 still feels much rougher with 500lbs in the bed (to account for weight difference.

Could shocks be my answer?

Does anybody know if there were suspension changes between the years?

I really want my '14 to take a bump like the '17

Thanks

Sure could be the answer. Bad bound/rebound control could be what is causing your ride issues as shocks are designed to control those motions (bound/rebound) of the suspension.

Hmmm, any easy way to tell if they are blown without completely taking them off?

I see no fluid.

Really don't feel like jacking the car up on jackstands lol

Is there a difference in wheel size. Sidewalls on tires help with ride, more sidewall, better ride. :happysad:

Did you ask this question at the dealership? They may have a logical explanation as they can see both vehicles to compare. My '15 felt noticeably different after replacing tires last week. There were only 20k kms on my last HT tires when they were replaced with my new HT tires. Tires are different brands but similar tread and the same size. I am suggesting to you that your answer may be as simple as a truck with 32 K miles will feel different than one with 2 K miles!

Rancho shocks suck man. That's your answer. I took them off my FX4 F250 after about 25k for the "rough as hell ride" over bumps reason. Monroe Reflexes changed that truck.... One of the reason's I avoided the Z71 package like a bad rash.

My 2014 is harsh at times in my opinion. Mine also has the stiffer suspension option. I think if we could get progressive Springs for the front it would alleviate a lot of the problem.

Was the stiffer suspension option only on max tow?

Because I don't have max tow, but my suspension feels stiffer. Like my '14 has less body roll on a turn than the '17 even though they were both all-terrains with rancho's.

I hear ya, but my problem is I just drove a truck with the ranchos and it wasn't all that bad at taking a bump. It felt like a normal truck should feel. My '14 feels like a sledgehammer hit the truck every time I hot a pothole.

Mine is Z60 optioned with Z82. I believe Z82 is trailering but not sure if it is max. As far as I know I just have the factory hitch.

Mine has the black factory shocks and I have just about 72,000 miles on the truck. I have been eyeballing some Bilstein shocks for it to see if that will hp out some. Mine is 2wd and stock everywhere.
