The dilemma....

I'm sure the L5P will need some things worked out, I'd wait a few years if you really wanted one. Meanwhile the LML's are a very solid engine PLUS 20% off, I know where my money would be going

Which is EXACTLY why I bought an LML. I get 5500-5700 miles out of the DEF and I fill it up when I do my oil changes. I heard of someone putting a brand new L5P on a dyno and it only made 404 HP

A guy on the previous page of this thread who has a 16 LML and just drove the 17 L5P said there was a "significant seat of the pants" performance gain over the LML. That same dyno would also have the LML showing a much lower HP number than you would expect as well. Bottom line is I don't think you could go wrong with an LML, its proven but the L5P will certainly outperform it at a higher price and unfortunately probably a few unexpected trips to the dealer....but who knows, maybe they have this one dialed in from get go.

I've made the decision that I'm going to trade my 15 gasser on a new diesel. The hype of the new L5P with 900+ ft lbs of torque is hard to ignore. The dilemma is that in a 60 mile radius of my area there are roughly 30 2016 crew cab LML diesel on the lots right now at up to 20% off msrp. Not any 17's on any of the lots around me. I don't need to trade right away but when the 17's do show up will it be worth paying the price for the latest and greatest or so they say Duramax.

The '17's just started moving to the dealers's in the last week or 10 days.

Now that they are shipping there will be lots out there soon.

Only? The engine is rated at 425hp. Was 404 at the wheels if you and I are talking about the same dyno run. I'd say ~ 5% drivetrain loss is pretty good.

I re-read the post and it was indeed wheel HP. I assumed it was just the engine @ the crank! My bad. But still, I'd rather not be a guinea pig with a new engine

That's really what it comes down to. I have a perfectly optioned and capable truck, I'd hate to get rid of it and take a brand new unknown possible problematic engine. Then again, could be the best most durable duramax right out of the gate. My professional experiences with first years are enough to keep me skeptical. Some even 3-4 years down the line ?

Lots of people will, most of those people are not in my boat, either needing to upgrade or the person that trades every few years. I'll let them put a Years worth of miles on the l5p and see what the general concensous is before considering. Not saying I won't be finding a few at the dealers when they become plentyful to take a drive or two....

I miss my LML every time I get in the current truck and am really trying to come up with an excuse to go to an L5P. :driving:

It was bought as a new '11 (first year LML). I'm not concerned about doing first year L5P.

Just saw a new 17 silverado at my local dealership. White, with the vehicle appearance package, has the nicer looking front end. But yup the ugly in the way DEF tank. What a shame. But if that doesn't bother ya, it's promising to be a nice truck.

I bought a 2016 for a heck of a discount and couldn't be happier about it, I'll trade it in in 4 years on a new L5P.

That being said I'll only put 6-7k miles a year on my truck, usually don't pull over 14k, and drive like an old man.

Well it looks like I'm going to wait a few months and go for a 17. The dealer I was at had a 16 that I wanted but wouldn't move on the price because It wasn't a bonus tag truck. $6k off of a $62k I'll shop around and get a 17. I went in thinking I'd be signing papers left dissapointed. Oh well still happy with my 15 and this will give me more time to research and see how the 17's workout in the real world.

Typical dealer only looking at the short-game. Last year at this time I was looking and found a leftover 2015 GMC 2500 and the dealer wouldn't budge on a thing (I spent a lot of time talking to the owner too) and I even told him I could get a 2016 cheaper. 3 months later he still had that truck sitting on his lot. I just don't get it.

The worst part of the whole deal was the truck had 550 miles on it because it was a dealer trade they had gotten. They didn't seem to think that mattered. I would prefer to put the first 500 miles on a new truck myself.

I agree that a new vehicle should not have 500 miles, I can understand under 50 miles but 500 should result in some sort of discount. I turned down a deal on a Denali because it had 600 on it and they wouldn't budge.. ended going to another dealer getting a better deal on one with 2 'miles on it

One the dealers close to me got a midnight edition in so I drove past this morning and took a peak. Maybe because it's black with black bars, but the tank didn't look too bad. Could still see it, but not really in your face.

The shield looks redesigned, with an outward slant to it that I think gives it a bigger than it really is appearance

Everything is negotiable.

Supply and demand is always also in effect.

    • Fred was in the fertilized egg business. He had several hundred young pullets, and ten roosters to fertilize the eggs He kept records, and any rooster not performing went into the soup pot and was replaced. This took a lot of time, so he bought some tiny bells and attached them to his roosters. Each bell had a different tone, so he could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now, he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report by just listening to the bells. Fred's favourite rooster, old Butch, was a very fine specimen, but this morning he noticed old Butch's bell hadn't rung at all! When he went to investigate, he saw the other roosters were busy chasing pullets, bells-a-ringing, but the pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover. To Fred's amazement, old Butch had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. Fred was so proud of old Butch, he entered him in the City Show and he became an overnight sensation among the judges. The result was the judges not only awarded old Butch the "No Bell Piece Prize," but they also awarded him the "Pulletsurprise" as well. Clearly old Butch was a politician in the making. Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the unsuspecting populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Vote carefully in the next election, you can't always hear the bells.
    • Can someone confirm if the GM order workbench terminal is able to validate a custom build sequence:   1) Initialize the Allocation Base: Open a new vehicle build queue, select the 2026 Chevrolet Suburban 4WD, and pick the High Country (3LZ Preferred Equipment Group).   2) Select the Diesel Powertrain: Go directly to the engine configuration screen and choose RPO code LZ0 (3.0L Duramax Turbo-Diesel). Ensure it maps to the MHS 10-speed automatic transmission.   3) Deploy the Seating Swap: Navigate to the Interior Options screen and enter RPO code ATT to replace the standard captain's chairs with the power-release 60/40 bench seat. Because you are not trying to force a separate luxury or air-suspension bundle, the standard, premium D07 Fixed Floor Console remains active. The system will accept this change immediately without triggering a warning message.   3)Apply Heavy-Duty Hauling Capability: Input RPO code NHT (Max Trailering Package). The commercial terminal will automatically bundle the required trailering hardware and software modules to support the diesel engine's maximum towing capacity.   5) Layer the Premium Tech and Glass: Separately add code C3U (Panoramic Power Sunroof) and code UKL (Super Cruise) to the order screen.   6) Run the Final Validation: Click the "Validate Order" button at the bottom of the interface.
    • Spent the last hour or 2 googling and reading up on the spacer thing. I don't like the loss of thread contact on the slip on spacers, but it appears you can get "extended" lug nuts that reach into the hole of the wheel to get back the lost threads. Looks like the only true hubcentric slip on spacers are at least .375". I'd want as little as I could get away with and don't want to cause other clearance issues going any thicker. Bora seems to offer what appears to be a well made .375" spacer and extended lug nuts. I searched here and did find a couple threads recommending Bora. But not cheap. By the time I buy spacers and lugs, new TPMS sensors, then pay a tire shop to install the new sensors, I suspect I'm going to be in over $400. Thinking about running out and getting some washers to put behind the wheel to see if .375" is enough to clear calipers, turn lock to lock without rubbing, and to see if the wheels/tires look strange pushed out a little. This would just be to check fitment.
    • Roadmaster makes some quality parts; I have their sway bar. I considered the RAS, but I ended up bagging. I didn't know what kind of ride I'd get with RAS, and the bags have interior jounce bumpers, so I can run 0 pounds pressure. I figured I'd have the best of normal suspension ride with assist on-demand. But it seems you got pretty much the same in one item.
