Everything I have been reading online the next generation (T1XX) will come in 18 as a 19 model .

For me, the only thing I would really like is LED daytime running lights and fog lights. After that, the changes are relatively minor.

I have a 16. Only thing I regret is not springing for a 6.2L.

 

Friend of mine is a salesman and they have a leftover 6.2L I could trade back in on. Even with all the rebates I would loose my a** prolly.

It happens all the time in the automotive world. Look at the F150, people who bought a MY15 with a 6spd, shortly after release, Ford announced a 10spd would be available for MY17. Look at the Honda Civic, it was redesigned 1 MY later in 2014 and that was after a redesign in 2013. In competitive car markets, auto makers have to constantly refresh, tweak and possibly reengineer lineups to remain competitive, or we would all be complaining that GM went 7 years without anything like the they did with the previous Gen 1500 or like Toyota did with the Tacoma. Want the latest and greatest? Lease.

I tend to keep my trucks for eight to ten years, so a change in model year is to be expected for me.

 

I'm not a big fan of the constant change in models and features. I could care less about the cosmetic changes, but its the engineering features that get me. Manufacturers are rushing so hard to keep up with EPA regulations and customer requests that they are having more and more QC problems and recalls, as evidenced by all of the complaints on this board.

 

I always liked GM because for the longest time, they avoided change. In the past, GM simply kept refining an old design until it became super reliable and capable. Also, when they released a new design, they would test it and refine it for several years before introducing it.

 

That being said, I'm really happy with my truck, but my only misgiving is that it is overly complex for what it is. It's closer to the over-engineered German cars than it is to the simple pickups of yore.

I look forward to seeing the new model year's vehicles come out. It would be disappointing if there weren't changes. The 2014 - 2017 GMC 1500's are substantially the same vehicle with enough changes between each year to keep them interesting to new customers. OP is experiencing buyer's remorse which happens to me (and others) especially after a major purchase. As I suggested earlier, most people can't tell the differences between the late model GMC's! I stroll through the GM dealerships on a regular basis and see nothing that makes me feel outdated in my '15!

Well on a good note, gm has a history of keeping engine platforms for a very long time, and they just developed these ltx engines from scratch, so and as long as you have a '14+, you should be good in that department.

 

Both the 5.3 and 6.2 are getting massed produced, which will drive down replacement and upgrade costs.

 

The changes between the 15-16 were so minor, imagine if you bought a '13!

I have a '15 and love it. I wouldn't have bought a '16 or '17 because I think they ruined the front end with the retouch. I do wish I had gotten the 6.2 instead of the 5.3 but only for bragging rights as I have no complaints with the 5.3 or 6 speed, or my truck in general.

lMO the Silverado '14 & '15 front end is better looking than the '16+ Silverado. So I'm happy I have my '14. I think the 16+'s look more video game-ish. The GMC's look the same to me.... 14- present.

I would have been mad if I had gotten non-LED head and tail lamps and then they introduced them a year later. I don't care if they change in 2018 as I am happy with my truck. I did not buy it so everyone else can know how new it is, that is ridiculous whether you write a check for the full amount or not (lol at that btw, some people just aren't good at managing money I guess).

 

In my opinion you buy something because you like it. If you are unhappy just because it isn't the newest thing anymore that is more of a problem with you than with the truck.

I have a '16 Silverado but do kind'a like the looks of the front ends of the 14s and 15s better. They look a little more old school and I'm old-er, so......

I do like the looks of the 16-17's, but one thing I do like about my 15 better-warranty. I see they changed it to 5 year 60,000 power train and now only 2 years of oil changes and tire rotation.

This is the exact reason I decided to get the 2015 instead of waiting until 2016. Even though I won't keep it that long, I would rather have the longer warranty, and the 2016/17 prices are 4-5k higher than what I paid for the same model.
