Tuned trucks with High mileage?!

I think so - it wasn't just worn down, it had completely failed like there was a cell that broke down.

Hey guys. Just researching these tunes etc for our trucks. I mainly came from car tuning, done a little myself with the cars, but trucks are whole new thing for me.

Do you absolutely have to get custom tunes? Has there been any serious problems with the preset tunes that some of these tuners come with?

I'm not knocking custom tunes but I used hand held in an 98 Ford,01,04 GMC, 06 trailblazer ss, 14 GMC. They worked as advertised and had no issues. Didn't feel the need in the vehicles since.

i wanna tune my truck this summer as i freakin hate the transmission in this thing. only gripe about the truck. im not to confident on the longevity of it based on the way its acted in the last 18000 miles. I think im gonna have the dealer service the trans, drive it for another month then tune it. my thoughts are they would maybe wave a red flag at me if the fluid is filled with metal or really discolored and i would have fresh service for the new tune that would be in there for the rest of my years in the truck. Thoughts on this? truck only has 20k on it but it shifts like a massey furgeson and its electronically locked me in 4th gear a few times.( dealer just reset the computer using the negative on the battery). if im gonna void the warranty i want to make sure i dont totally get boned.

My 8 speed transmission electronically locked in 3rd on me early on and the dealer put in a new TCM. Apparently the old one was not firing signals consistently or properly. After the change I could not believe how much better the transmission shift was. Don't know if that is an option for you with the dealer or may be a totally different situation but before the tune you might verify. If your tune goes on top of something like my TCM issue it may not fix the TCM issue and if the dealer somehow sees the tune(since they will be tooling around it) then the dealer may balk on the repair. I still plan on tuning mine later this year but have still been surprised with the change in the transmission. Good luck and Blackbear all the way!
