LED headlight installation questions

I'm installing a set of LED bulbs in my 2014 SLT. For those that have already upgraded to LEDs or HIDs, how did you run the decoders. Did you keep everything within the headlight housing (I think there's room) or did you drill through the factor dust shield and mount them externally to the light assembly. Any photos of how you mounted the decoders/capacitors would be appreciated.

I was running the vled lmz bulbs in my slt. Everything fit inside the cap under and around the projector. I don't have any pics, but there's a good bit of room in there. I did have to add extended dust caps bc stock weren't deep enough for the bulb to fit.

Just be mindful of how the wires are sitting when you stick everything inside and you'll be fine. I Ran them right at 2 years like that, then had one fail on me from a wire that was pinched at a 90 degree angle right where it comes out of the controller box. I didn't think to check something like that.

I used LED's from XenonDepot. These have a pretty big heat sink so rather than trying to stuff everything in there I drilled through the dust caps. I used a 1" bit (they provide a 1" grommet) and it sealed up nicely. On the driver side I used zip ties to attach the canbus to that little support bar in the front. On the passenger side I attached it to a support bar in front of the air box. I don't remember which one exactly but when the airbox is in you can't see the canbus. I'd supply pics but I can't ever seem to get them to upload. (Side note: if anyone can tell me how to upload pics from an iPhone I'd appreciate it. Keep getting file size too big message)

adjust the resolution on your phone and then take new pics that are smaller files. for some reason phones default to the maximum resolution which creates stupid big file sizes.

Airbox is on the passenger side.

Try using the tapatalk app, I've never had an issue with file size. Can upload directly from photo album to forum.

There was a guy on here 3D printing and selling them, Jon A. I think his printer quit working eventually or he quit making them one. I saw some DIY projects after that where people were using pvc as a cover. There's an old thread on the vled lmz bulbs with some of those examples if my memory serves me right.

I'll have my extended dustcaps available soon. I just swapped my assemblies out for the new ones, just holding on to the old lights for a couple weeks to ensure I don't need a backup plan lol. Im almost a week in now with no issues.

The

Extended caps have a 1" hole pre drilled. I didn't need the hole so I covered both with goretex patches from the retrofit source. They'll let the lights breathe, but won't let moisture in. Stayed water tight for 2 years like that. Hit me up in a week or so if you need them.

Thanks for the responses everyone. I didn't they they would but everything was able to fit inside the housing. I also drilled two breather holes in my dust cap and covered them with a shield/screen that was provided. Didn't think it would all go but with a little monkeying around past the factory projector - there really is lots of room in there. I don't know about being 3x brighter then stock as they were said to be, but it is a big improvement over stock.

i think you will be much more satisfied with a 4300-5000k HID kit in your stock projectors.

i did the LEDs in the projector as well and the HID i wound up going with later blows them out of the water.

actually, i did a modified h9 bulb, then the LED, and now a TRS 5000k HID kit. the last being the absolute winner

I just completed installation of the Morimoto 2Stroke LED H11's on my '15 Silverado and they look great. However, once I crank the truck up, they go out. I've tried with and without the anti flicker module. Polarity is good, fuses are good. Any suggestions?

Some LED headlight bulbs are not compatible with DRL (lower voltage) mode. That could be the problem. Have you tried turning on the headlights manually or are you using Auto mode?
