My son just bought an '08 Z71 Vortec Max. What exactly is this truck? It has all the bells and whistles with LTZ trim and console. I didn't know the 6.0 was available with AFM but that's what's in it. Is there anything else different about this truck. I will say it is pretty nice.

I had an 08 Vmax that I got rid of last year. It basically allowed you get get the 6.0 in the half ton truck. It had an upgraded transmission I believe vs. those used with the 5.3. I had the 3.73 gears in mine, but you could also get the truck with the NHT package which had enhancements for heavier towing. I still have a rear diff gasket that I bought to change out actually, ha.

It is really only an engine option and seems to always confuse people as to what it really is.

 

I have a 2008 V-Max with the Z71 suspension.

With the VortecMax engine, you get 4 wheel disc brakes, the standard 3.73 gears, factory trailer brake control, heavier duty transmission, and higher capacity alternator with the larger engine.

It was also available with a 'heavy duty' suspension that gave you higher weight ratings over the Z71 suspension option.

6.0, 4L70 trans, 4.10 gears, 9.5" rear, rear disc brakes

4.10 available with NHT 3.73 with z60 and z71.

Chevrolet's attempt to have something akin to the Sierra Denali in power.

 

Note - Check emissions label under to verity its a real Max, 6.0L engine. Some owners like to add things to make the truck appear different than what it really is, such as adding decals (Z71) and emblems. Friend almost bought a used Silverado Z71 that some owner or the used car dealer faked. There are tons of them emblems and decals sold on Ebay.

I always thought they were pretty cool. Not the run of the mill half ton.. Had a few things that made it a little cooler. Wish they labeled the 6.2 like they did the Max.

True. Those decals did add an extra 15 HP.. And yes, they looked nice as well.

14 bolt cover and a 12 bolt ring gear

I haven't driven my new to me '15 Silverado all that much since I bought it. Trying to keep miles off it with my dirty job and all. I drive the beater Ford expedition when I can.

I can't say enough good things about how well this max tow 6.2 pulls a trailer! Sure I could use more power.. Never enough. But it stops well, takes off good and the 8 speed does a better job towing and working hard then it does just taking it easy. Glad I held out for this truck so far.

      You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.

      You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.

      2026 6.6 L5P oil cooler leaking oil at 4,000 miles

      New to diesel trucks. I happened to find my oil cooler leaking oil externally with only 4,000 miles on the truck. I didn’t realize this was an issue until I started researching it. Dealer is going to replace it under warranty but I’m wondering if there’s anything GM is working on to fix this issue. I’ve heard the oil filter used is the same as they use on their V6 motors and that’s what is causing the problems. Should I switch to a bigger filter or keep using the OEM recommended?
