Looking at getting a 2001 Chevy 1500HD. Not sure of the gears. Its the 6.0 gas automatic transmission. Crew cab short bed. Needing a truck that can tow around 10,000lbs. Can tis truck do it?

All of the info I have found for that truck says it was rated between 10,000 and 10,300 lbs towing capacity.

2500 would be safer and easier on the truck. :happysad:

3500 would be better than your recommendation....for the reasons you listed.

You would be right at the max on that truck. It's the same thing as a 2500 light duty with a 3.73 gear. Personally I would look for a 2500 HD with a 8.1 or a Duramax to tow that much. I've had a couple 6.0 trucks and never thought they were much on usable power for towing that much weight especially often.
