Jim - I have a 2013 1500 6” bds lift with 35x12.5r18. I know my model is different but for mine at least (Bosch EBCM) the Speedo calibration has effect because the EBCM has its own setting for tire size that only the dealership can change. No aftermarket programmer to change the EBCM. Your EBCM may be different, possibly made by TRW instead of Bosch. In regards to lean I tried mounting the sway bar differently to stiffen things up with no resolution.

Just wanted to throw my input into this forum. I bought a brand new 2015 Z71 Silverado crew cab. I essentially started with a leveling kit and 33 inch tires, and never had any issues. Once those tires ran out of tread I upgraded to a 7.5 inch Rough Country lift and 35 inch tires on 12in wide rims same rims that I had with 33s. I have had the Stabilitrak problems since the lift but did not have the problem when I had the leveling kit and the 33s. I have taken it to the dealer and I have taken it to specialist to reprogram, and reset the steering angle sensor. I still have the issue when I turn both ways that's the Stabilitrak turns on. It is really annoying and at times very dangerous.

So my question is, has anybody tried to tighten up their lift kit past torque specs to eliminate roll. One thing I have noticed from moving up from the 33 then leveling kit to a seven and a half inch lift is body roll in the cab, that is the only difference with the exception of the tire weight. Any thoughts. Any dirt bags who would like to respond with anything counterproductive can suck it, nobody wants to hear that negativity. Any help is appreciated.

Would adding front and rear anti-sway bars reduce the body roll?

I have a 2013 GMC Sierra Crew Cab and have been through two different lifts, 6” RCD and now 6” BDS. Both with 35x12.5 Toyo MTs and 18x9 rims with 4.5” backspacing. With both kits we tried different positioning (lowering) of the sway bar which also means different size end links to stiffen up any roll. This had no effect on the false positive Traction Control and Stabikitrak activations. 

 

Have you tried narrower rims? I can’t remember if a rim with a smaller backspacing was tried on my truck but the lift companies never had anything to say about it.

 

To this day I still have to rely on my KP Technologies Traction Control Module to turn off my Traction Control and Stabilitrak each time I start the truck. No aftermarket programmer that I know of to reprogram the EBCM on these trucks.

so I have a 2017 ltz crew cab, there is a 3 inch body lift that was fine for 5500 miles when I got the stabilitrac service at start up. I had the dealer download the fault. came back a yaw sensor. he did the re calibrate to zero the sensor. was good for 500 miles now its back on as soon as I start the truck. is this a bad sensor? where is this sensor?

Hi Folks,

 

Don here. 2017 Silverado 4x4 Crew with RC 7" lift, 325/60/20 AMP A/T tires..

 

I read this forum thoroughly while evaluating my lift/ Stabilitrak problem. I solved mine and I will pass it on. That said I am not sure it is a one answer cure all issue.

 

I spoke extensively with Rough Country for guidance. Like everyone else I played with sway bar collar clamps, alignment (repeatedly), opened ticket with GM (they came back with tire size was the issue), Road Force balance, Hypertech speed calibration, stock tire size etc etc. No change.

 

I changed some components on my lift and Stabilitrak issue gone. RC stated they feel it is a geometry issue with the lifts affecting the Stabilitrak. See below for the parts list showing what I changed. I wish I could offer more but I am not that familiar with the suspension systems of vehicles but hopefully the parts list will point you in the right direction. Thank y'all for contributing to the forum;  especially Wyomingcolt for stating all he did without positive results thus sparing me much work.

Hey guys bin reading a lot on this stabilitrac problem we are all having..I have a 2015 1500 7 inch rough country spindle lift with rear traction bars and with 35" hankooks on 22x9.5 rims.

As soon as I did the lift I started having the problem when turning...I have brand new front hub bearings and sensors..done alignment..reset steering sensor..any guys have luck on an a permanent fix??

I just changed my uca to the ones rough country has although now they say for 3in lift only on the website now and got an alignment and retorqued all the bolts on both crossmembers with a torque wrench not just hit it with an impact and havent had any problems since then and thats been about 6 months and this is on a 15 Denali on a 6in rc with 35s on stock wheels

I have a 2018 Silverado LT with 600 miles on it. Picked it up last night after having Maxtrac 5" spindles and 315/70r17's put on. On my way to work this morning my dash lit up and I got the following email notifications from OnStar:

  • A critical issue with the StabiliTrak® stability control system in your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado has been detected.
  • A critical issue with the Antilock Braking System in your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado has been detected.

 

The dash lights have since went away but, its concerning reading this thread.

Hey just wanted to post a good response for once..ended up getting rough countrys calibrator...it completely solved my stabilitrak problem everything is perfect now. Rough countrys tuner doesnt just fix the speedo..it recalibrates the ebcm and transmission to fix your shift points and the stabilitrak system for proper engagement..again I'm a mechanic..triple checked everything..reset all sensors and it was the tuner that solved it..no other tuner recalibrates the ebcm just fixes speedo.

Anyone with the same problem after a lift and has already checked the sensors and wires..get the rough country tuner it will solve it!!

Has anyone else used the Rough Country Speedometer Calibrator that Randy did?

 

I called Rough Country but the tech on the phone stated that their Speedo Calibrator does not change anything in the EBCM. Instead it only changes the tire size in the ECM to calibrate the speedometer. 2017 model trucks may be different but at lease for 2013 (nnbs) the tire size settings that effect the Traction Control and Stabilitrac are set in the EBCM. This is different and unrelated to the settings in the ECM.

2009 Chevy Tahoe with 3.5" lift 10 x 20 wheels with Nitto grapplers. I get the stabiltrac flashing light on both right and left hard turns. This is of course older technology, it does not seem to grab the brakes or do anything noticeable or dangerous,  just an annoying flashing light at times. It might be something else but I think the lift is what is causing it? I am taking it back to the place that did the lift to check everything out if they come up with something I will let you guys know. I realize this is not a late model nor an actual Sierra or Silvy but might find out something useful.......it does seem to be a fairly common problem around the internet. Check out this cool TaHOe pic and yes I know it is a Hybrid and that a lift and big wheels and big ole heavy knobby tires wheels defeats the Hybrid purpose. I bought it like this LOL.

I am sure you have thought of this but, I was low on brake fluid and was having these issues. As soon as I topped the brake fluid off, issues went away.

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
