After about a year the GPS on my 2016 quit working. A few days before I was waxing the top and the metal is so thin that it flexed around the GPS antenna and water ran out from under seal. It hasn't leaked yet but I suppose that's next. Dealer visit next week.

OK, dealer visit 3/9/17 update. The dealer tech found "open in roof mounted hi frequency antenna" after "computer systems test". Ordered new antenna.

While waxing my truck I noted water coming from under the roof seal. It fits tight but the flimsy top lets the metal flex with moderate pressure. The day after the visit my GPS started working again. I think I got the water out by pressing on the top until it quit weeping. I assume this was creating a short while wet.

Funny-I threw this theory at the Service Writer but they ignored this and likely have ordered an unneeded part. I didn't contact them again because this will at least get them to look under the seal. I'll discuss this again when I go back next week for replacement. Now if they plan to remove the headliner I'll reconsider.....

There are 2 seals on these antennas . The outer one with a vent on the upper side (should on the lower side for drainage) that doesn't seal out much. Then there is an inner seal that should seal the hole in the roof. We have replace a bunch of these for leaking but not so much for loss of gps. Talk to the tech or SM to see if they will add a little silicone sealer to help seal it. Water that gets beyond the outer seal shouldn't be a huge problem if the inner seal is good. See more gps issues with the Tahoe/Suburban antennas. There is also a spliter under the defrost grill that has been known to fail on a few. Only if you have on board nav (I06). Splits the gps signal for the gps/nav and onstar. The head liner will have to be lowered along the windshield and left 'A' pillar area but not "removed"

Water intrusion is a known problem. Mine had to replaced this year.

 

 


Condition/Concern

A customer may comment they have one of more of the following symptoms:

The issue will usually be accompanied by a DTC (B2462-02, B2462-04, B2470-02, B2470-04, B125C-01, B125C-02, or B125C-04 ).

Note: This recommendation only applies to vehicles equipped with the high frequency “painted” antenna assembly after built before the dates listed.

Engineering has identified an issue of water intrusion into the body of the antenna assembly which can ultimately travel down the wiring pigtail into the vehicle.

There have also been cases of water leaks from underneath the antenna at the roof panel opening. Inspect the roof sheet metal to ensure there is no deformation at or near the antenna pass-thru opening

If the antenna performance concerns outlined and/or one of the water leak concerns are encountered, replace the antenna ensuring to use the latest antenna part number available from CCA parts without removing the cover from the base.

Important: The painted antenna cover is NOT intended to be removed. Do Not remove the antenna cover from the antenna base, as this may compromise the sealing performance of the new part.

Note: DO NOT use and any form of Sealants on the replacement antennacover, seals or gaskets.

I had the same problem of no GPS. I took the god antenna out and opened it up and found some moisture on the inside. I dried it out and put it back together and that still didnt fix it. I noticed the green light was out at the Onstar buttons, also. So I unplugged the connector for the rear view mirror and plugged it back in. That fixed my no GPS issue and my Onstar green light came back on.

Ok, I have a 2016 Yukon XL  Denali, and after having the signal disappear a couple times in 2017, now I have the red light on my ONSTAR mirror and my GPS says I am 50 miles away and can not locate me. I called GM and asked about the recall 15155 and they said my vin number was not part of that recall. The only thing I could do is have my case escalated for the time being and I now have a 48hr wait to see if a supervisor can investigate the matter. I told the representative that I was experiencing similar issues as mentioned in the service bulletin, except I haven't seen any water inside the car. She said then it is not the same issue then.

So after I got off the phone I went outside and inspected the antenna. I thought well maybe it doesn't have a tight seal to the roof? As soon as I started inspecting the rubber seal and nudged it with my fingers a decent amount of water came out. There is a weep hole in the rubber but it is on the back (high side). The water appeared to be pooling in the front. (the lowest point).

We have a 2000 Tahoe with approx 250K miles on it, and the thing runs like a champ. The LS motor is what sold me.  I purposely purchased this car a year after it was released so they would have worked out all the bugs. Between the the roof bow/noise issue, and some other things, I think they figured it out by the time we purchased ours. I have been really happy with this vehicle so far. The 6.2L LS and 8 speed transmission, with the MRC has been as good as expected. Even getting on average about 17-18 MPG around town, and 22 MPG on the freeway. I hope GM will take care of this issue with the antenna, so we can continue on with it for many years to come.

So I took my 2016 GMC Sierra Denali in since my GPS quit working suddenly the dealership just called and said I need to replace my antenna with a new improved antenna which in my eyes means that GM has issues with there OEM antenna. The new part is $150 and they say the labor is $400 that seems excessive to me seeing if anyone has had the same thing told to them.

Yes same problem  2015 highcountry told me corrosion and needed new antenna 400 dollars. I had a headliner leak a year ago a few drips left corner. Never fixed it

Same issue. I own a 2016 Sierra Denali 6.2 and just bought it used from motor werks Cadillac in Barrington il. And they told me the same thing. $600 dollar repair. And said that the bumper to bumper warranty was expired, which it is. But come on with only 30k and I have a leak and the GPS is not working. I hope they fixed the problem and design better more thoughtful parts. it is an expensive truck. And to have this problems like this I think is unacceptable. thanks and GM DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

    • Question @diyer2 on this line if you please. Are you saying the shudder is the system turning on and off at the frequency of the shudder? Guess I'm asking if you are saying you have seen it do this with the bi-direction scan tool in graph mode? If so have you been able to discern the 'trigger'. Something is telling to cycle rapidly.    My truck just started doing this recently. 197K on the clock. My response has been M5 anything under 55 mph. I treat it like a lugging stick shift. Gear down and let it spin a bit. Engauge M5, then tow mode and then M6 lets the trans stay in 5th but the AFM is active. Smooth like Skippy.    My thought was that as a machine ages the friction gets lower and as the system is load based, the lower friction would allow it to turn on at ever lower rpm until it reaches the lugging point. And yes I am ignorant of any minimum rpm requirement for the system. If you know that would be useful information.    As you know I run a Scan-Gauge II which allows me to watch the On/Off of the signal to the VLOM. While in the shudder mode I'm not seeing is cycle at that frequency or at all for that matter outside the triggers @newdude posted a few years back. Now is it possible that the refresh rate isn't fast enough to catch it? Maybe. It is why I asked my first question about graphing and trigging parameter.     As we have observed from members here the failure point is all over the map miles wise as you note yourself in your opening post. That by itself begs a few questions like fellows that comment on these lifters failing even after the system has been disabled.     • UPDATE 2: Steering wheel control backlights and control of the cluster can supposedly be achieved by adding a wire to pin 20 of the cluster and tapping it to pin 2 of the main clock spring harness. I'm going to give it a shot - will update  
    • GM Global A pickups 2019-2022 can do OTA programming for the radio.  GM VIP (GM Global B) can do OTAs for almost every module on board.  So a 2022.5 and newer pickup can do OTAs for recalls like the 2.7 fuel flow recall.  EVs get OTAs that improve one pedal driving, radio issues, HVAC issues, updated battery management software, etc.     So age of the vehicle/what GM electrical platform its on will alter what amount of updates can be pushed on OTAs.  
    • Thank You.   So far my new ride is making me look like a genius for going with the 3.0L, as my first fuel refill occurred over three weeks from when I took delivery.  This engine combination is very amazing.  So far no issues and had not done a regen yet.
    • I am curious as to how much fluid you put back in the transmission ( assuming you had replaced the filter to compare to my findings ) and then went through the process of warming up the trans before pulling the check plug to drain out the excess and if you measured how much came back out.    I just found it surprising that some claimed a certain amount less fluid being put in and then draining some back out. The attitude of the truck as per if the surface is level and how the trucks stance is would make quite a difference since the check plug is right at the front of the transmission.
