2017 6.2 w/8 speed: I thought my trans went out today...

So you brought your truck in that day and expected/hoped them to look at it and have a rental sitting waiting for you.... Christ man.

Them even doing it the next day without an appointment is really good of them honestly. And at our shop, we need a week before you'd get a car. There is only so many to give out, you can't expect just to show up and get one. Geez.

And yes we only have one trans guy at our shop and there are 20 mechanical techs on hand. That's all he does. The new transmissions are extremely complicated, he knows exactly what he's doing vs a general tech that doesn't work on them.

It seems like both dealers were honest and hopefully it's a easy fix but man, you have to have realistic expectations.

not having a rental is bullshit. We have a Lexus Fsport and anytime it goes in for something more than a few hours you get a loaner. And before you spout about Lexus being luxury or whatever, my LTZ was more than the Fsport.

Interesting that 2 transmission mechanics quit at your first dealer. I can't help but wonder if it was the insane workload they were seeing from all the horsesh!t gearboxes the General is pumping out these days.

They are few and far between to find good ones. I'd bet if they were any good, they got poached. Our tranny guy gets job offers all the time from other places. He's not overly busy since the usually it's just a module reprogram and that's up to the update guy.

I have usually had the time to make an appointment and havnt had to take it in with an emergency like you did, but Auto Nation on Hwy 6 has always taken care of everything and has always had a loaner vehicle when I went in and had to leave my truck. They have fixed some issues with my 8 speed also. They have some good techs there. Just for future reference.

That's funny, my wife has an acrua integra type r we take to the local Honda dealer yearly for oil change and inspection This time they did the timing belt. It was going longer than expected and they offered to throw dealer tags on a car of my choice and take home for the night. A cross the street sits the GMC dealer I bought 4 Hyundais and two trucks in the last 10 years I have to make an appointment for a loner. I never bought a Honda from the dealer that gave me the loner, that may change.

Dude, is not being unrealistic at all? Thankfully, the Dealers were being honest with him but major shaft no doubt! Realistically speaking myself, I hope my wife tells me about the affair after a couple months and not couple years.........

Update: I did get my truck back on Friday. They said they reprogrammed the tcm and did a trans relearn. They said that they couldn't get it to mimic the problem that originally happened and that they will not open the trans to check for any damage unless they are advised to do so through gm. So that if any internal damage was caused I would just have to wait and see. He also said not to worry about it because I have plenty of warranty left lol. So I left and the shifting was a little off but it got better. Guessing it was still learning. Drove to the deer lease, everything was fine there and back. 850 miles later and it's shifting like it was before the problem started.

Seriously. "Realistic expectations" I was going off of what the service adviser told me. He said that they should be able to look at it today and that hopefully it's just a programming issue. As far as the rental, anytime I've gone to classic for any warranty work that would put me out of a vehicle they had a rental available. Without calling in advance. My expectations are that they'll keep me notified on what's going on with my truck. I know trans are a pain to work on/diagnosis issues with. Especially the new transmissions. That's why I only build motors and have someone else build transmissions.

What was the final outcome for this?

I just got code P0700 last night on my truck, it was driving/shifting fine, I cleared the code, but it will probably come back.

Did yours get fixed, has it been good since?

What's funny is before 2008 and the big bail outs that's exactly what would have happened for him... I hate hate hate going to the dealership anymore zero customer service zero enthusiasm for their jobs and just chitty people all the way around. I have owned a GM product from the same dealer since 93... every two to three years like clock work. The last 8 years well let's just say my next purchase won't b from them anymore.

I'll still buy GM it'll just be a different dealer/service center. My wife's Acadia had a tick that sound like a bad lifter at 11k. Took it to my old guys meh there's. I thing wrong. Keep in mind I use to build race LS1 motors for a living... Drove it it stayed the same but was consuming oil now hmmm nothing wrong well went to another dealer that specializes in BMW but as an off shoot GM lot as well.

Tech looked it over broken lifter bent valve had already started coming apart head so out of shape its not repairable. New engine and for giggles sake a new transmission both with a 36k on the dealer... now that was service. And to boot they had a rental car waiting after we spoke to the service advisor. Knowing they wouldn't get to it until the next day. So I don't see his complaint to far out of the ordinary.
