Auto Clock Issue

Recommended Posts

With it being Daylight Savings today, it reminded me of an issue I'm hoping one of you might have come across.

When I set my clock to "auto" in my truck, should it not adjust automatically for daylight savings? It hasn't been and no idea why. I've just been manually doing it for now.

Not a huge issue but a PITA twice a year...

Thanks!

I did read my manual when I bought my truck.

Only thing I can think of is it has to do with OnStar. I don't have a subscription, but I still have the "basic" service for a few more years. Thought that might be enough, but maybe not?

The auto clock feature is controlled by OnStar. It pulls the current time from the nearest cell phone tower. So if you don't have a paid plan for OnStar, this feature may not work.

Thanks for the clarification. Too bad it can't just figure it out when I pair my iPhone to my truck... That seems too simple I guess.

from the owners manual, Auto Set requires an Onstar subscription.

I dont have a subscription and mine updated just fine on its own.

Do you have Navigation? The map does not require any subscription to work.

Same with my 2015, it updated and I don't have OnStar. It also updates when I cross time zones too. I know it says its requires OnStar but I have never subscribed to OnStar. I do have Navigation and GPS receiver can calculate its position and time. GPS continuously sends data to the receiver based on location.

I cross over into a different time zone quite often, and it struggles sometimes to regonize when I'm back in my home zone. Do you live close to an area that doesn't observe DST?

No, I frequently cross into the CST and back to EST zone. It does not often update immediately but usually with in 5-10 miles or so. Yesterday when I backed my truck out of the garage, it was already on DST. As I recall my 2012 Denali was the same and it also had Navigation and no OnStar.

Nope, no navigation. Did you register your truck with OnStar?

I do not have Onstar or navigation and my clock has always changed with day light savings and also with changing time zones.
