Diy intake tube....curious

So as the title says, I'm curious if anyone has made a diy intake tube out of PVC or aluminum tubing. I'm not looking to replace the box with the stock filter, just the baffled tubing. Even if it doesn't add power I'll take the sound. I just can't see spending 150 for plastic or 450 for 10hp. So just wondering if anyone has made their own and if so pics . I know I know cheap but I like making stuff. I see a lot of diy's for pre 2013 but none for the newer trucks

A guy I know did it. I'll see if he has pictures but it's going to be an issue getting the maf to fit. It looks cheap too

What about 36 hp? Afe momentum gt... things have changed.. just the tube swap didn't get the higher rating this merry go round.

Yea I've seen a ton for all those yes but 0 for anything 14 or newer. I wasn't planning on replacing the airbox where the Maf is located.

36 HP is nothing to sneeze at. Thats a pretty significant #. I just look at these things and see molded plastic and can't believe 450 or any of these high numbers. I'm just interested if the tubing has been diy'd.

I'm thinking the MIT Jr. For $150 is doable, but I haven't yet. I hope you come up with something.

You and me both. I looked yesterday to see what could be done. A 90° tube from the throttle body that goes straight to the stock box. The alternator is in the way slightly as the stock box outlet angles towards the firewall just a bit. Only other thing is to drill holes for the PVC. My only question I don't know is what size tubing? 3 inch, 3.5 or 4. Since I'm not touching where the MAF is that diameter stays the same and should make no CEL come on. Just the tube diameter is where I don't know what size to work with

Yes but its part of the air box. That stuff I won't be touching. I want to replace from the TB to the wrinkle tubing

Check out intakehoses.com. When I had my TBSS I ordered stuff to make my own intake. I didn't use them for this truck because I knew a guy who had a used MIT for $100 shipped. Also with these there are two vacuum ports, one on each side, that would need addressed for fitting on an aftermarket tube.

I went and looked at autozone and they only carry 3 inch pipes. Went to HD and the 4 inch looks massive. 4 inch could handle a turbo so thats great but I wish I new the I.D. pipe that most of these cai's use. Looking at age, k&n, spectre, airaid...no one says what diameter the pipe is. That my dilemma. I check that link out thanks

Why don't you measure or Google the throttle body opening and or the air box connection???? Better yet just buy the damn intake instead of ghetto rigging some tubing on a $50k truck lol

I did measure. Seems to be 3.5 in I.d. $300+ is a ludicrous price and that's the cheap side of intakes. Made out of plastic which probably cost no more than 50 bucks to make, if that. I'm not looking to replace the factory filter box..just the tube from tb to factory air box just like the MIT.

Ghetto is zip ties and duct tape. Having silicon couplers, intake pipe and another coupler is far from ghetto. Its not falling into sheep mentality to have to buy brand name cause everyone else does

I asked him lol. He said it was a k and n just wrapped w thermal heat shield.

Instead of plastic, use 3.5" steel tubing...I have nearly 3.5 ft left over from my exhaust install, buy a 4ft chunk, a 90* sweep, and use the silicone to attach to the airbox and TB.

 

You could even paint it, or powder coat it...
