Instead of plastic, use 3.5" steel tubing...I have nearly 3.5 ft left over from my exhaust install, buy a 4ft chunk, a 90* sweep, and use the silicone to attach to the airbox and TB.

 

You could even paint it, or powder coat it...

Just run down to home depot and pick up some dryer exhaust vent tubing. Think of all that bling you'll you get as well.

I did measure. Seems to be 3.5 in I.d. $300+ is a ludicrous price and that's the cheap side of intakes. Made out of plastic which probably cost no more than 50 bucks to make, if that. I'm not looking to replace the factory filter box..just the tube from tb to factory air box just like the MIT.

Ghetto is zip ties and duct tape. Having silicon couplers, intake pipe and another coupler is far from ghetto. Its not falling into sheep mentality to have to buy brand name cause everyone else does

Haha make no mistake my friend, what you're talking about doing is ghetto. But I guess everyone on this forum are sheep for buying something actually engineered and dyno tested for more HP and torque. That's why they're $300+. IMHO +18 whp and +23tq for $300 is the best bang for your buck out there.

It's available at Lowe's and Sears, too. And it's really long when you stretch it out.

And it comes with connectors!

I guess I don't get the "ghetto" comment, pretty much any intake in the diesel world or "tuner" is custom built because no two installs are the same...either using steel tubing or aluminum. Not to mention, pretty much any custom snorkel system is made of glued PVC.

 

I've seen some of the custom home-designed and home-built parts and pieces made by members on this site that are sometimes pieces of art, but would be "ghetto"?

I am a pretty avid DIYer but these companies have developed/tested these intakes and they actually fit. Some are no doubt better than others but as one poster pointed out why would you "Jury Rig" a critical engine part such as a intake on a 50k truck? Reinforces my decision to NEVER buy a used vehicle LOL

Me either. I guess in muscle cars welding in a roll cage or fabbing turbo piping is "ghetto" as well since the owner has the know how to do so. As well as all the interior foot well lighting would be "ghetto" as well as people are wiring up the lights on their own. Like the previous poster said use aluminum tubing. Add in the silicon couplers and attached to the factory air box.. Is it gonna give me the +18hp. Probably not...if its ghetto..hey , its my truck payment.

no problem man. I agree with you, some mods shouldn't be done or left to someone that's done whatever many times. I agree seeing pvc as the intake is not my first choice for an intake. Just the look alone does not say performance. As a previous poster stated using a 3.5 aluminum pipe. I would get the couplers from here. Intakehose.com. seems to be the best prices. I really would like to get the afe but I can tell you now the wife would shit seeing I spent 450 on an intake lol. $100 may be better for me to apologize for buying lol

Unfortunately I am not great at welding nor do in own the equipment. Someday I'm gonna just talk a night course in welding. But I agree if you can weld you can pretty much make what you want
