Bluetooth Audio question

So I have a 2011 with bluetooth, but it only works for the phone (like phone calls), which is nice, but can the new trucks with bluetooth play your music too thru bluetooth or do you still need an aux cable to play music from your phone?

On my 2015 you can change the truck head unit to Bluetooth media to play music from the phone. I also have the aux option as well.

Sounds like just a connection setting. You may want to try what the other guy payed but also look at the Bluetooth songs on your phone. I have a Samsung and I can choose what the Bluetooth connection is for (calls only, media etc).

No bluetooth streaming until 2014. You gotta use the mini jack or usb

This. GM changed it with the new body style in 2014. Anything 2014+ can use bluetooth for phone calls, contacts, music, and texts. Anything before that you need to use the aux jack.

I'm all for buying a new truck - but if you want to stream music now, order this for $20. It's a Bluetooth receiver - plugs into your AUX port, works great. I use one in a 2000 Ford Expedition that doesn't even have Bluetooth - it's like magic.

Thanks Texas Daddy. Looks like I need to get my checkbook out now for a 2014 or up!

Bluetooth is over rated, the sound compression algorithm degrades the sound quality, as in lossy vs lossless SQ. esp... with most music today being higher level quality. I think its fine for little speakers but its noticeable in these trucks... I had 2103 Sierra Denali/GMT900 truck,

Some additional info:

I can even tell you the older iPods/iPhones work better with your 2011, I think iPhone 5s + some software update makes them sound like crap (popping/hissing noise) in the GMT900's and yes GM knows about it sadly they do nothing to fix it (via direct USB connection).

In my 2016 all my apple iPods & iPhones sound awesome.

My 2012 Chevy Cruze came the same way (phone only), I was able to replace the multimedia interface module with one that came from same year Camaro giving me bluetooth audio streaming. I would do more research to see if any one with the same year truck has done the same thing before spending the ~$90 if you want that capability.

Any more info on this? We have a 2013 Cruze and I may be interested in trying this!

This is the Item and number that I purchased on Amazon. The module is located In the center console in front of the shifter, it is a tight fit in there.

ACDelco 22797218 GM Original Equipment Multi-Media Player Interface Module

A quick you tube search I found this video showing how to do the swap/setup.

You can also check the Cruzetalk.com forums for more info.

I was very happy with this setup and the sound quality was much better over the headphone jack connection.
