Buying 2010 ltz

Hey guys, looking at a 2010 Silverado ltz crew cab 4x4. It has a 140,000 miles but was bought and maintained and traded back to the same dealership. The car fax shows the truck being serviced every 5000 miles and the 50,000 mile and 100,000 mile maintenance done as well. I have seen a lot of these trucks with well over 200,000 miles on the clock and still going strong. Any reason not to buy this truck?

Thanks

Bryan

If its priced too high?

hard to say since you didn't give a number.

Also, if the suspension has been modified at all, I'd avoid it.

All your info points to a solid used truck. You should enjoy a nice ride for a good price at that age/mileage.

that's just a tick above what KBB tells me it should cost at a dealer. so not a bad deal.

I'd offer 17,500 ish. Make sure you spend some time in it, also in the dark, to make sure all the electronics work, all the lights work, etc. Even test the trailer wire harness if you plan to use it. I try to make the dealer stand behind something it so that if I find any issue a week later they will still fix it for me. I've gotten a new battery, window trim replaced, etc, after closing the deal.

Those dealers always do a once over on the vehicle before selling, but sometimes there are minor issues they miss that can be fixed, that you shouldn't have to pay for. note the condition of the tires & brakes, etc. If they are near the end of their life, I would expect the price to reflect that as well.

crawl underneath and make sure no leaks, i might have someone check out the transfer case but if both those things look good id pull the trigger and get it

If the dash is not cracked it is a fair deal.

What do you mean about a cracked dash?

There is a small crack on the passenger side, is this a deal breaker?

I think it was a joke.. they're pretty much all cracked. I know that every Escalade or Yukon I drove was cracked somewhere.. we'd make a game out of it.. guess where the crack will be in the next one..:-)

From '07 up to '12 or '13 model years, it not a matter of IF the dash will crack, but WHEN the dash will crack.

I'd bet my next paycheck the crack is at one of the inner corners (closest to windshield) of the passenger side air bag.

Guess I'm just lucky. Both of my trucks have zero cracks in the dash.

OP, 140K truck for $18k would make me a little nervous with the AFM. It's a total wildcard. Notice my two trucks don't have AFM.

And the half-ton components aren't as durable. I'd be uncomfortable buying a used truck with the mileage that high. I usually look for trucks with no more than 100k miles.

Would programming the afm out make it more reliable?

If it's done when the truck is relatively new, yes. By 140k miles, the damage is already done. Does it use excessive amounts of oil?

The problem is the design itself. I had an '06 300C with the Hemi, and AFAIK the Chrysler version of cylinder deactivation works flawlessly.

Honestly, I haven't taken the time to become familiar with AFM mitigation issues, because I'll never own an AFM truck. When I'm ready to buy my next truck, if I can't find what I want from GM without AFM, I'll be buying a different brand. I don't know who to be more angry at - GM for ruining such a great engine, or the government for having such asinine/overreaching CAFE regs.

Is it possible to get the previous owner's info and give them a call? If it wasn't an oil burner then I wouldn't be extremely worried. Can always get a Range AFM delete to shut the AFM off. At the end of the day I'd take a well maintained high mile truck over a 50k mile truck that has been used and abused.
