Tailgate Seal

Good afternoon...I am getting a camper shell on my truck for my wife's business, she sells clothes that I need to keep clean and dry.

 

I've done a quick search for tailgate seals and it seems there is anything from weather stripping from your big box stores, so what appear to be custom applications (they might just be lipstick on a pig)...

 

Anyway...I don't mind paying a little extra, but want to find the best one possible for my '16 short bed. Does anyone have any success or horror stories that I should consider or stay away from?

I used a product that Extang sold me with their folding tonneau. It works well, but I screwed it up and had to piece it on the bottom. I need to order again, take the tailgate off and start over. I'm thinking $25 or $29 for the roll from AutoAnything.com.

I bought some rubber stripping and some foam stripping at Home Depot.

so bed, not tailgate? i know you can see daylight, and a lot of it if you look through the gaps between the tailgate and bed...

I would simply keep the cargo away from the tailgate area during inclement weather. I find that whenever I open the canopy and tailgate while it is raining the floor gets wet in the area close to the tailgate. However, most of the cargo area remains dry. I have not had a problem with water penetration through the tailgate while parked or driving but maybe I'm just lucky!

I only have a tonneau cover, but I don't ever recall any water coming in from the tail gate itself. Not sure that's really needed (and I live in a very rainy area).

you guys are lucky! i have a tonneau cover...and it is functional, but not even close to water proof...however, i get more water/rain through the back tailgate than the top itself...

I get a tiny bit of water in the bed, but it's more from the "gutters" that run along the inside of the bed to divert water. Pretty sure it's because I levelled my truck and now it's not leaning downward toward the drains now.

I sealed mine to prevent dust from coating everything while on logging roads. I did not attempt to seal out water or even have it in mind
