Xm antenna water Leaking through visor and a pillar and down through d

Well after doing some digging I found out that the xm radio gasket is faulty and leaked into the truck. I haven't ruled out sunroof. But here is what I am seeing when I look at my xm antenna.

Inside

Down the dash

So temp fix until dealer orders new gasket and antenna.

So everyone look at your antenna now!!! If it looks like this one. Call dealer. There is a bulletin out for it.

I have that hole in back of gasket and mine don't leak. Looked at a couple of my friends 14 and 15's and they have hole also. No leaks. I think it is supposed to be like that for some reason.

The missing portion of gasket is normal. The part that actually does the leaking is a smaller seal built onto the antenna that sits on the roof.

Yes they assured me that they will be fixing it and checking all electronics and headliner and such. Let's hope the stick to there word.

But is this after the water goes in through the gasket? Because there is no other way for water to get in the antenna other than the gasket

The small seal inside is square shaped. It's almost like a felt. The hole allows water to get in and out, the antenna has three small spring like contacts that touch the roof top to intensify the signal received. The hole in that seal has to let water out as well or this reduces the contacts from working. The small secondary seal is to stop water from going into the cabin.

That's normal. The gasket that leaks is inside the antennae, you can't see it from the outside. Exactly what Justin said.

yeah believe me first thing I did was pull over and took the pictures of Allen after damage so that dealer can't say well we don't see anything

Second thing I did was call and report it leaking all the way down my dash. When I go in on Monday I will make sure it is stated water leaked into

My dash because of anything happens I want record of it.

Some silicone is def needed, I had one put on my truck cause I bought the mvi upgrade kit and first thing my stereo guy said was to silicone the little square seal

My question is, why do they have to have that cutt in the outer seal? I understand that you would want a way for water to get out; but if there was no cutt in the outer seal, water would never enter in at all anyways, so why the cutt?

Furthermore, if the cutt was necessary, don't we all agree it would be smarter to put the cutt in the front of the seal, that way it's pointing downwards, so water would drain out better, and be much much more difficult to enter.

Is it possible to rotate that outer seal so the cutt is in the front?

Who knows what goes on in the head of engineers, maybe they figured it would create a whistle noise at highway speeds. Water will get in there even if it was a complete seal with no hole. Driving down the road when it's raining is enough to push it under that seal, it's not tightly held against the roof. Kent Moore makes a weather sealant that is clear, I use it on all water leaks I do.
