These trucks handle way better than my Wrangler. The jeep is why I developed the 66mph cruise habit (the things is a sail). I like the extra MPG too and love driving the truck so don't mind the added windshield time.

 

What is it with fords blowing smoke at me as they drive by though?!

It's a birth defect

The way it's always been explained to me is that differential speed on the interstate that can be dangerous but there are studies that throw that a curve. I think if you are caught driving beyond the speed rating of your equipment you should be cited. Unless you are very careful with your tire selection almost all travel trailer and 5th wheel tires are rated at 65 miles per hour. That used to be my max speed. Now I have tires rated for 81 and I don't go much faster than 70 when towing even though passing maneuvers may require a temporary deviation. https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/publications/research/safety/04156/

 

The truth of the matter impeding traffic in the passing lane causes the most accidents and now it's against the law in many states with fines upwards of $250 if you get caught.

I see it all the time traveling, some one passes a slow moving vehicle in the right lane and never increases their speed even though their going under the speed limit as well.

Wow, this thread got real really fast... kinda like i drive...

 

I was kinda curious as to what speeds y'all are pulling campers and other trailers. I've been looking to get a camper and have seen most trailer tires are only rated for 65mph.

 

Normally, not towing I drive about 74-77 mph on the interstate and 65 or less on back roads depending on speed limit. I don't drive aggressive, I don't get horribly angry when people drive slow, nor do I tailgate said slow people. It's all not worth the frustration. Luckily I drive to work before most people are awake, and leave work when few are on the road. Plus I live in B-F Egypt so very little traffic round these parts anyway. I've never seen a cop on my road and most people treat it like the autobahn.

Check with the trailer tire manufacturer, I've found a lot of them are now speed rated to 75mph or even higher now. That 65mph rating is kinda old...

I'm not wanting to tow over 65 or so mph, but I'd much rather be going 65 with a tire rated to do 75 than doing the max speed of any part of my rig.

I normally drive 65 or so when towing my Keystone Bullet on the interstate, and when towing the boat I keep it around 70, as it fallows in the trucks slip stream. Reduce that some if on secondary divided roads, and around 50 on two lane roads.

 

When not towing, I keep it just under 80 on the interstate, and other roads I keep it less than 10 over, as you wont' usually get pulled over for doing less than 10 over.

I just put new shoes on my 5th wheel camper (10,000 lbs) The new ones are rated for 81 mph. I also went to and E rating instead of D.

 

Old tires where at there max for weight and speed. It does make me feel better cruising at 70 that I am not exceeding the tires speed rating any more.
