8 speed garbage

8speed transmissions across the board have sloppy shifting issues including gm, Chrysler, ford, and i guess subaru (dads had 2 with issues). Even the torque converter shake is across the board, just varys on how bad. Custom tune will solve the shifting fyi

The ZF 8 Speed in my Dads RAM is actually quite flawless. It's like it knows what the drive wants and just does it. Responds quite well to the throttle inputs.

My 2017 Colorado 8 Speed is also really good.

Well the looked at it tech says it's normal. Meh oh well. When I called and talked to him about it, he said you wouldn't believe the number of 8 spds they've had in. Nothing they can do about it for now.

You mean, nothing they will do about it now.

Mine suffered from that downshift into 1st jump a few times. The first time at a red light. Thank God nobody was in front of me BC I definately would have rear ended them! I always have the 1st to 2nd delay shift first thing in the am. If I allow it to warm up longer than I normally do, then I don't get the delay.

My main concern was to at least get it noted on record that I had problems with the performance of the transmission. And that part is done. As far as a fix,how do you guys think it works? From what I get, a lot of you think GM dealers know what will fix it, but are just putting the customers off. I don't think that's the case at all.

I don't understand how this transmission went through all that development, and ended up like this. I really think if GM knew what was wrong there would be a bulletin sent out and everyone's problems would be solved

GM doesn't know how to fix it. There are still plenty of 8 speed owners out there not happy with how it shifts. To have a dealer tech say it's "normal", I wonder how normal it would be if it was their truck shifting like crap. And if you really want to dive into a GM boondoggle, go read about the failed AC condenser problems a lot of people are having. My dealer alone has 30+ Sierras and Yukons sitting with failed condensers with no eta of a redesigned part in sight. Dead of summer and AC failures left and right. That Is plain unacceptable.

So GM and Ford co-build a 10spd transmission. The F150 gets the 10spd and GM is using this 8spd. Wondering why doesn't GM also have the 10spd? Is the 8spd an interim transmission and the 10spd will be in the '19's? My only complaint about my 6spd is in heavy city traffic it's a bit lethargic, aside from that it's great. The fix for city traffic is I put it in M4 or M5. I'll be honest, the 8spd is one reason I'm plenty happy waiting out for a new truck.

Yeah, I thought the 18s were getting the 10spd. I find it a bit odd that they're teaming up to build the trans. Something fishy is in the works I'm beginning to think. Will we see a 5.3 in an f150 next?

Also, my trans started acting up. Didn't have any issues with it the past 10 months or so, now it's starting to get jerky. Truck just turned 3,000 miles today. I'm not thrilled.

Good luck getting it fixed! And expect a few new door dings when you go to pick your truck back up.

The sad truth. I brought my truck in for warranty work a couple times and found f some nice scratches across the whole bed and tailgate. I even watched one of the techs put one in because he rubbed against the side as he was squeezing his fat ass by. Let's just say I gave the service manager a Stern talking to and they were buffed out.

No one gives a crap about your stuff anymore, it's sad.

Unless it's completely broken or throwing codes it's a waste taking it into the dealer to be corrected. my axle is still seeping gear oil on the RR at 68k miles. I had it into the dealer 2 or 3 times and it was one big run around the farm after another. SM even told me point blank don't worry about it I have a power train warranty until 100k. WOW. Detroit and Yukon shafts might be going in my truck... I'm sure my issue something like a bur on the axle. but joe six pack tech can't pick that up with the OTC scanner. The 8spd is not inspiring confidence. I'm thinking we'll see start/stop tech and the 10spd on the '19's. Can't wait for all the issues that rubbish will bring. Manufactures are releasing Beta vehicles as consumer products now.

I have been a GM guy my entire life. Their idea of testing is putting it out there and waiting to see the warranty work then revising a part! But it is pretty much a fact NEVER by the first year of any model from GM. C4 Corvette 1984 complete garbage, C5 corvette 1997 horrible worst year c5, C6 corvette 2005 again worst year alot of issue, and then there is this new platform and the 2014 is a mess as they slowing revise and repair the hell out of this model. I am on a first name bases with everyone at my dealer. Ridiculous how many times I have been in there.........2015 Denali first year!!

I agree with ya buddy. Except for your '15 is a second year K2XX. I was all into C4 vettes years ago. I had an 89, it was great. The cross fire 84 was trash. Then the iron head TPI came out. Then aluminum roller L98, and the 700R4 was not really "good" until '88 IIRC. Yeah.... by the time it's perfected GM stops making it. My father inlaw and I have the same conversation. Does not take a Von brougham to figure it out.. Ford is kinda the same way. I had the last year 6.0 F250. Awesome truck. By then all the bugs were worked out!!
