thinking of going back to 1500 series

I'm 6' 2" & had people complain that my '11 was taller than my '04. I knew who had bought my '04 so the next time I saw them, I measured the rockers & the height was pretty close on both trucks.

 

That being said, the box heights (from floor to rail) have increased. GM went up about 2" for the GMT900 over the GMT800. Initially I thought this was stupid as you're not going to carry more sand because of this. Afterwards I was glad of the change when my genny just fit under the tri-fold. Wouldn't have w/ the '800.

 

Be thank ful that the frame rails are 'dipped' not flat under the cab or else the ride height would be even taller.

 

My '82 had 6" of suspension lift, a 2" body lift & rode on 38s. The rest of my trucks have been kept stock, so I can't complain.

FWIW According to GM, max tow does include:

 

NHT - Max Trailering Package, includes 9.76" rear axle, 8-speed transmission with 3.42 or 6-speed transmission with 3.73, (JL1) trailer brake controller, enhanced cooling radiator, revised shock tuning for increased control, heavier duty rear springs and increased RGAWR

 

 

 

I've not pulled 11,000 with my NHT, but I have pulled the same enclosed trailer with an 8 speed 6.2 1500 and with this 5.3 NHT 1500 that I have also towed with an LML (2011) duramax.

 

Based on the experience pulling the same load with both, and base on pulling loads at about 12,000 or so with the Duramax, there is no way I'd want to pull and 11,000 lb travel trailer or 5th wheel camper with any 1500.

I just bought a 2017 2500HD, I looked at the 1500's but I wanted the higher payload.  And when it came down to price I couldn't get a 1500 6.2 for anywhere near what I paid for my 6.0 2500.  I also like the fact that I only needed 2.25" keys and 2" blocks to make my 2500 sit as high as a 1500 with a 6" lift.

After 500 miles the 1500 is ok.

The good is ride and mpg. Of course. The bad is the low rider 4wd look, the Obama geared 3.42. Pulling my 20 foot bass boat hurts mpg more than I thought.6.2 would be nice but only seen in Denali or ltz. No tow max trucks in my area. Always felt in 2500 the truck pulled the trailer. Now with 1500 the trailer pulls the truck if that makes sense. One nice thing on 1500 is stepping from bed to bumper. Electronic power steering is different.
