I don't recommend it but it's your monies

Sounds like you made your decision already on the 1500

Good Luck

I am sticking with my 2500..... its paid for..... ;-)

Must be nice! The bank still owns most of mine. I just pay them a bunch of money every month to keep letting me drive it around!

Oh I had an Ally note on it, for 3 years. Just paid it off in June this year. I had made a down stroke of about 20k at purchase. Truck only has 23,000 miles on it.

Still owe $13k on mine. Just hit 28k miles. Paid about $35k so far

for any of you that have had multiple gm trucks would know that an hd truck keeps getting higher and higher to get in to. aren't you guys tired of having to get a stepladder every time you want to get in. I just got a 17 2500 hd gas. it is way to high. came with gm running boards. it was 19.5 inches to the step. a standard chair is only 18 inches high. if I had to chose again between 1500 and a 2500 I would go with the 1500. just for the fact of getting in and out. maybe you young guys don't mind crawling up so high but when you get older it seems like a pain getting up there. last tuck I had was an 04 hd and the new truck is 4 inches higher and 5 inches at the tailgate. truck I had before that was a 94 2500 light duty. which was 6 inches lower than the 2004. just right for climbing in and out without running boards. miss that truck a real lot.just go to the dealer and climb in and out a few times and then go to the half tons and do the same. that should make up your mind real easy.

I am fully aware of the 35 ft camper issue. You have to go slow in crosswinds. Boats are much more aero dynamic.

I just wanted to know if someone had towed an 11,000 lb load with the 6.2 Max Tow. There is about 1800 lbs difference between a diesel 2500 and a gas 1500 with the 6.2. and the 1500's are alot more capable than they were 10 years ago.

I kind of get your question. I let myself be talked into the increased capability of the 1500's. I got a 2015 GMC and I struggled with it for a couple of years. It tried to kill me twice and that was it, time to upgrade. And I was no where near capacity. So then I upgraded to a 2017 Duramax and have had no issues what so ever and I tow every other weekend from March to November.

Will the 6.2 / max tow pull and stop it, yes, heck the 5.3 max tow is close, but should you... HELL NO! and it has nothing to do with the 6.2 power or the beefier axle.

At 11,000 lb you are at max. I stand by the old rule, never go over 80% of your towing specs. And payload on the 1500 is going to get blown out first.

The Allison transmission is worth the admission price alone. In the 1500 the transmission temps would climb 190-200-and level out at 214 ish. With the Allison I have not seen it go over 180ish, maybe 190 once in the heat and just for a short time.

All the manufactures are doing the max tows and I am sorry, their ratings are misleading. GM max tow is mostly a heavier axle on the rear only. I think still a thicker sway bar on the front and shocks. Not even the heavier radiator anymore.

2500 gets you E rated tires, huge brakes, way bigger than the 1500's. Exhaust brake on the diesel is another plus. Also compare the frames.

I had the chance to tow my trailer with a 2500 6.0 gas. Honestly that towed my trailer 100% better than my 1500. Only downside was the gas mileage.

If you are just asking a hypothetical on the 6.2 power, just ignore me. But you already have a nice 2500 and I am sure the boat is a big investment. I would not cut corners pulling it.

I just went through this. I had a 2015 3500 LTZ SRW with the LML. I convinced myself that I was tired of the rough ride and wanted the smooth riding power of the 1500 Denali with the 6.2, so that's what I bought. Here's what I'll say, the 1500 rides much better than the HD's and almost feel sports car like after coming out of an HD. I've read posts where guys say "my 2500 rides better than my 1500" which is BS in my opinion. That said, the HD's ride incredibly nice for heavy duty trucks.

What I missed wasn't the power, the 6.2 AND the 8spd were awesome IMO. What I missed was the secure towing the HD provides regardless of the trailer size. A maxed out 1500 towing is a bit scary..whereas the HD with the same load provides confidence. I guess like others have said it comes down to what you want. I just switched back to an HD High Country with the L5P..too early to give a opinion on it but so far I like it.

I have a 1500 at work that rides just like my 2500...there are at least some 1500s out there that ride rough.

I know- I had an Avalanche 2500 before this. I loved that truck but 11 Michigan winters and road salt killed it.

The first month of driving the HD I kept falling out of it. I have NO idea how these guys put LIFT kits on these....

On my stock 2500HD the step-in height is about 26". Pretty much had to pull yourself in with the grab handle. I put wheel to wheel step bars on and now step-in height is at 18". Much more reasonable. May get some different wheels and tires, but definitely no lift otherwise it wouldn't fit into the garage.

I have the factory chrome steps but they are 4" higher than my Avalanche, and you would not think that was a big deal but i kept falling for the first month. Muscle memory....

Loved my Avy and would've kept it if it was an '09 or newer with the 6L80. The 4L60e just wasn't built to handle the power.

Awesome

A lot more options in 1500 suspensions than 2500 suspensions. Isn't the z71 even a code for "firm ride"?

My 6.5 inch lift is awesome. This thing rocks. With the 35in tires it's more like a 7.5 inch increase over stock

Edit: and GM has one of the lower trucks out of any of the major manufacturers

    • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
