Factory winter grill cover install?

Recommended Posts

Guys, I attempted to install the supplied winter cover on the front of my 6.6 today. I'm a bit confused as I can't find anything to hook the little black clips to on the top bar of the grill per the instructions. The bottom hooks up no problem, but can't see what the heck the top ones grab hold of?

I did mine the other day. The little hooks 'catch' the 2nd horizontal bar of the grille:

That's where my confusion is... on my sport/painted grill there isn't a groove on the back of that bar for the clip to latch into...   there is a black plastic filler piece on both the first and second bar.   Feeling like a moron at the moment... ?

Either my cover is the wrong one or defective.  When I look at the photos on the Accessory site, the top row of clips are shown with the hook towards the rear.  On my supplied cover, both the top and bottom row of clips have the hook facing the cover itself.

The instructions say for High Country or Z71, PN 84359503.. however the cover is PN 84359501

The PN for mine is 23290141. The instruction sheet is #23444797. I know when I saw the accessory display @ the US Nationals, they listed a part for Dmax equipped trucks (which I used) & 1 for High Country trim trucks.

The 23444797 works on pre 18 models.  I am having trouble getting the correct winterfront for my 18.  The parts guy orders the correct part # for my VIN but it comes in the correct PN box but the PN on the item it is tagged 23444797.  We have ordered a high country trim one even though mine is not a high country.

The instruction sheet that came with mine says its for HC & Z71 (I have a Z71 with sport painted grill).  Local dealer confirmed it does not fit, must be the wrong one.  Unfortunately though they referred me to the selling dealer to sort it out, which is over an hour away.  I might just call GM Customer Service.

How much difference do they actually make?  We’ve had several double digit below zero days and I have yet to notice any issues with heat running no grille cover.  Is there another reason I should be using one?    I’ve had no issues without so far.

Well then, there you go, that explains it.

This is why I have been fond of Fia winter fronts.  Actually, both winter fronts and summer screens that are interchangeable on snaps that simply stick on the grill with 3M tape that is on them.  I have never had a snap come off in using these most of this century on 3 separate vehicles.  As simple of an installation as one could hope for.
