Disable DIC messages

Mine are quick...I can see if they stay on for more than 10 seconds, it would definitely be irritating to keep clearing them.

Playing around to eliminate the number of messages (now down to just one - the wifi connected), the ONE message will disappear in about 5-7 seconds.  The freeze warning seems to take much longer (even all by itself).  Somewhere around 20 seconds.  Although it will be a few days before we get there again, I'll try to test it again.

And it definitely takes longer the more messages that pop up.  As I said before, I suspect there's only one timeout and one thread, and as each message pops up, the timer increases, so you don't get rid of the messages "in order", or "as they appeared".

I just dismiss messages in the DIC when they come up upon starting up the pickup and never get hassled by them again. i usually make some snide comment like... "thank you for sharing, now, take a long walk off a short pier!" as I dismiss them.  When I get the ice possible one, I like to make the comment of "about time you realized it was cold outside" as I dismiss it.    Not sure how it is that the OP's messages are hanging around.  I just dismiss them with a push of the button and rarely see them again.  Right along with a quick flip of the switch to disable the daytime running lights.   Darn nanny state stuff.

Ummm..  Yeah, I can do that.  And do.  The point of the matter is - they are unnecessary (which by your comments you also agree with), or should be something the user has more control over.  And hopefully everyone realizes that constantly hitting the button to dismiss them every time you start the vehicle WILL wear out the button and the rubber/plastic housing that contains the button?  I've seen that on many vehicles with similar types of buttons/switches over the years.  Check your key fob that is 4 years old or more, and look at the unlock/lock buttons.  Most of mine are already deteriorating to the point of needing replacement, but replacing that stupid piece of plastic is not cheap - usually requires the entire key fob.

The truck is a major investment for me (cost more than double what my first house cost 37 years ago!), and I don't want to do things unnecessarily to shorten the life of anything on it.  Unfortunately, we apparently don't have the ability to do anything about this, but I was asking the question to see if there was something I was missing.

I agree with the sentiment that some customization would be nice. I don't need to be reminded about the ice since it is possible here every day from November through March.

The phone bluetooth reminder doesn't bother me since I don't always have it turned on. That message reminds me if it is on or not.

I know for a fact my ice warning goes away in 5 seconds if I do nothing (while driving). The bluetooth one also goes away fast. Do we think the message display time changes based on if you are moving, or in park?

But at the end of the day, it is just not practical to allow you to selectively control every alarm, warning, light & message that the truck uses. I think deep down you know that. You can submit your thoughts to GM and hope they make improvements on future models.

Mine stay on for like 5 seconds each, like rocnrol says, their gone buy the time I back out.

Mine too.. No way is it 30 seconds. If it's taking 30 seconds to go away on it's own, something is wrong. I'd have it checked out.

No different than if you end a call before it goes through.... The call not connected message will never clear on its own from the dic until you shut the truck off if you don't hit the button.

Update - last week I got the "Diesel Particulate Matter Sensor Diagnostic Fault" update to my truck.  That is TOTALLY unrelated to DIC messages (or should be).  However, it has altered them slightly.  NO reason I can think of, but that update has done something.

Ice warning message stays on for nearly 10-12 seconds.  Finally got down below freezing again the last few days, and I've driven the truck.  I've timed it with a stopwatch.

Other messages now going away in 5-7 seconds on their own.  Not getting "stacked" messages just yet (2-3-4 messages nearly at once), so haven't tested that yet.  Also not sure of timings changing if moving or in park.  Before, seems like they would stay on longer once in Drive, and moving, rather than in Park.  But not sure.  I'll also try to test that.

Yes - you can control them - by simply setting up "groups" (I'd think 2 or 3 groups would be sufficient for the most part).  I'm NOT suggesting doing away with real, critical, diagnostic messages, just the "fluff" messages.  Or better yet, DON'T obscure the DIC - if an infotainment system is installed - move them to that display.  Most of these fluff messages seem to simultaneously display on the infotainment system as well, so why obscure the more important DIC?

Also - not sure how many replying have a 2017 - but if you have something earlier, possibly even a 2018 - it's not an apples to apples comparison.  Was talking to someone the other day who has a 2015 Silverado - it seems not to have the option for Apple Car Play or Android Auto on it.  Not sure if that option was applicable to EVERY infotainment system - but it certainly wasn't present on his.  So - they don't all have the same exact programming, etc.
