Oil catch can contents (picture)

Hey there everybody.

I installed an Elite Engineering oil catch can on my '15 Sierra All Terrain back this past September back when the truck had just under 30,000 miles on it (bought it used, and the next week installed the catch can) and currently the truck has just over 36,000 miles on it.

I drain the catch can once a week when I fill up with gas (always use 91/93 regardless if it needs it or not).  The liquid contents in the can goes between 1/4 to 1/2 full in a week's drive (roughly 300 miles).

In the summer months, I did not experience what I see now in the winter months.  The liquid looks like coffee with alot of creamer in it and smells of gas pretty bad.  I check the oil dipstick when I fill up and there is no discoloration in the oil and the coolant color is normal too.  No abnormal discoloration in the exhaust either.

Is this normal for a direct injection truck?  This is my first truck with it.

I live up in Maine where the temps are usually below 32F (we had two weeks in the single digits for the high during the day).

Yours looks like other pics I have seen on catch can threads on here.  I still choose not to run one and if it causes problems for my truck down the road then I will probably choose another manufacturer the next go around.

Yes that looks pretty normal.  You get water vapor as well as oil vapor out of the engine.  When mixed that is what it looks like.

The Elite Catch Can on my 2015 6.2 contents looks just like that in the winter -now, after 26k miles, none of that crap has ended up in the engine. I have the same one on my 2015 Corvette 6.2, but it isn't driven in the winter, so there is never too much in that one.

Very normal, you have more condensation in the oil during the winter months that doesnt burn off, catch cans capture it. My 2016 Sierra and 2017 Camaro SS both look like this.

The contents in my Elite catch can look the same, especially in the winter months. During the summer, it is mostly oil.
