Anyone having trouble with SXM?

About 50% of the time, when I get into my 2016 Sierra Elevation Edition, the SXM will not work.  No sound and I get the screen I have attached.  I have switched back and forth between sources, turned the truck off and back on, and called XM support to ping the signal, nothing.  I get in next time and it works fine.  Today I took a phone call, the radio muted, and after the call was over, again no sound return.  A problem when I called XM was they wanted me to change radio to "0" (or 1 can't remember) so they could send the signal but the radio would not change stations.  I had dealership look at it the other day and they could not recreate it after they did an update.  Next day same problem.  Any advice or reports from others having same problem would be appreciated.

I have had problems with it cutting out for a second. It will be fine the just then a quick blip of silence. Never use to do it. Maybe my rado needs refreshed. Has any one else had this problem?

Enough that I dropped my subscription. Drove my wife’s Jeep this morning and hers does the same thing. So it’s not just our trucks.

Glad to know it's not just mine. Thanks.

Trees / bridges  / buildings / gas station canopy etc. seem to easily block the signal. Mine constantly drops the signal when on backroad's with a tree canopy. Works fairly decent on open highways though.  Signal is so compressed that I never listen to music just the news stations and occasionally a few others. (OK I will admit it I like to listen to 128 LOL)

Definitely not as good of reception as the add-on transceivers do...the old xm deals I had never lost signal, and it was just a 2inch square antenna.

The Equinox loses signal under tree cover...

It's not a signal problem for me.  I have issues on clear sunny days under nothing.  You are right sdeeter, I never had issues with my add-on receiver in my old truck.

Rarely had issues in my 05, 07, 08, and 12, as well as my 13 Impala.  I like XM.

As of May 2017, there are five satellites in orbit: two XM and two Sirius satellites and one spare.[88]XM-3 and XM-4 are the active satellites for the XM service and replaced the original XM-1 and XM-2 satellites which were placed into a disposal orbit. Sirius FM-5 and FM-6 function as the primaries for the Sirius side. FM-6 which was launched on October 25, 2013 and declared ready for service on December 2, 2013 initially served as an in orbit spare while the company worked to deploy repeaters for the Sirius side which were needed to transition to full geostationary operation. In 2016 FM-6 was put into active service and officially replaced Sirius originals FM1-4 which operated in elliptical orbit. FM1-3 were later placed into disposal orbits. With this change FM-5 and FM-6 exclusively serve the Sirius service mirroring XM-3 and 4. Before FM-6 was launched, XM-5 was sent into orbit by Proton from Kazakhstan, on October 14, 2010, and is capable of broadcasting to either service.[89][90] XM-5 serves as the in orbit spare for the entire system and can function in place of either a Sirius or XM satellite. In late 2016 Sirius XM placed an order for two new satellites SXM-7 and SXM-8 which will replace XM-3 and XM-4. These are scheduled for launch in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Sirius satellites broadcast within the S band frequencies from 2.3200–2.3325 GHz, while XM radio uses adjacent frequencies 2.3325–2.3450 GHz

I didn't really make myself clear when I originally posted this.  I don't believe that this is an XM problem.  I believe it is GMC problem and I was curious if anyone else was having the same issue or a fix.  Is the aentenna connection bad or a glitch in the stereo programming?  Something along those lines.

I think the lousy signal is directly related to GM hardware. If a squirrel farts in a tree above my truck I'll lose signal. I'm not sure if it's the antenna or something in the head unit. I don't use it much anymore anyways with CarPlay and built in Pandora.

The XM in my wife's Volvo is bulletproof compared to my GM which leads me to believe it's a GM issue.

I had the signal refreshed and it seem to be alot better. It don't seem to have those quick little cut outs now.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
