Seapacer2 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Good Evening Everyone, New to this site, I just acquired a 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD SLT and looking to add a light bar inside the grill or mounted on the front bumper. What light bars is everyone utilizing, how do you like them, are there any issues and would you purchase that manufacture again?
74Sprint17SierraATX Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I have a 2017 ATX, mounted a $150 bar from amazon or eBay,( I don’t remember) on the sport bar, wiring through the bar was the hardest thing. I have no issues with that bar and it works great when I need it. As far as your set up, look into the grille wiring. I know people were having issues with that due to the electric vents that close in certain situations. That, as far as I know would be your biggest issue, wiring wise. Hope this starts you off in the right direction!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
lawnboy-5247 Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I have a auxbeam lightbar behind my grill it has been great and cost about $200, here is a link to a post with pictures
Seapacer2 Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 My 2018 has a Diesel, so it doesn't have shutters, are you utilizing a straight or curved bar for the front?
74Sprint17SierraATX Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 My 2018 has a Diesel, so it doesn't have shutters, are you utilizing a straight or curved bar for the front? Oh gotcha, don’t know too much about the diesels! Well then I don’t foresee any issues wiring wise, I cut the dimple on the harness link and fed my wire through there to the cab. My bar is straight. It’s got spots in the middle say 60% of the bar and 20/20% on the outsides with floods. It’s far enough back on my truck where it lights up the sides pretty well. Not sure what you’re looking for specifically.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Crazy Schooner Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 I bolted in a 30" Rigid Industries E Series amber light bar behind the grill. I had some L brackets laying around that lined up with the brace.
Darksky Posted August 25, 2018 Posted August 25, 2018 30inch Rough Country single row Black series. It is absolutely a perfect fit with brackets designed for our trucks. The length and curve are perfect. The “Black” series is made with blackened chrome reflectors so that it is discreet and mostly non reflective from behind the grille, even during the brightest day, it is kind of hidden. It comes with a complete harness and a decent lighted red/green switch. A bargain for around $249.00 I believe there are a lot of members that have this very product and I have never seen a thread complaining of issues with one. I am completely satisfied with mine.
Seapacer2 Posted September 20, 2018 Author Posted September 20, 2018 Thanks guy for the responses, I was looking today to finalize my choice of light bars today and I noticed that one manufacturer in particular has a built in DRL mode within a 30" light bar, has anyone else looked into these lights or know anyone else who is utilizing them? It comes with a dual mode switch, has anyone tried to integrate this function with the standard truck DRL lights? What are your thoughts?
wforrest08 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 I personally would be leary of running a light bar in DRL mode if it’s not a DOT approved light. Even then at least around here I’d expect to get pulled over for it at some point since light bars aren’t legal for road use here.
Crstfr Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 32' strait.. with wireless harness.. .sync'd to my homelink buttons in the cab!.... less than 50$ mod!
