Sierra as a Daily Driver

Also who likes driving a truck? Seriously?

I drive one because I need to, and its a damn fine one for that.

but why on earth would you want to drive a truck over a car that is faster in every way, handles better, and rides better.

If you want to sit up high get an actual suv

our trucks are meant to work, if you’re just driving to the office with it and you bought it specifically for that, to put it bluntly, you’ve got a small penis

I think 2500 and above are designed to work.

1500’s on P-rated tires are generally for the “trucks for personal transportation” buyers, methinks.

I like driving my truck as personal transportation. It also makes me drive slower, which is another benefit.

Not true, my 18, 6.2 Sierra drove like a Cadillac and then I personalized it emoji12.png.

I bought my father-in-law a Yukon because he had an old Camry that rode like crap and every time I rode in it with him cause he made me go everywhere with him when I’d visit. One day, for kicks, we stopped at a Toyota dealership, vultures came running, we test drove new ones, even Lexus ES garbage and felt like you’re driving a go cart, felt every crack and crevice. So, moving on, I surprised him one day when he drove home from church, presses his garage door opener and found a shorty Yukon SLT in his spot, he completely freaked out. He later told me he couldn’t believe he’s been driving that pc of crap Camry around all those years. It’s not about how much miles you get but the Smiles you get per mile. Safety is without a doubt the best in a Truck or SUV.

I got rear ended one day by a texting teenager, visiting my truck, I noticed a caved in brand new Honda Accord, it was smashed in the drivers side all the way into the shifter. The repair guy said, see all the shit splattered everywhere? Brain matter! Yeah, you go ahead and jeopardize safety over mpg’s.

Yukon’s ride way better than our trucks. I had a tahoe before I got my pickup.

guess what happens when you put 1500lbs in the back of a yukon, it sinks to the ground. Because the suspension is not designed for that.

put 1500lbs in the back of one of our trucks and the only thing you’re going to notice is a level stance and it takes a little bit longer to accelerate

I got a used Chevy Cruze diesel back in 2015.  Well worth it.  Been averaging 47.5mpg  The last tank I got up to 49.8mph.  Nice to go 800 miles on a tank and only have to fill up once every two weeks or so, depending on if we take it on trips to Raleigh or Wilmington which are 70 miles one way from home.

I figured if I didn't have my 91 Jetta diesel and this Cruze my truck would be a 350k miles on it now.

Yeah but an SUV would do everything better.

When my family gets bigger am I going to pay an extra $15k for a similarly equipped suburban over a ccsb sierra, probably not.

I mean I test drove a lexus gx460 a few weeks ago. Another body on frame suv at a similar price to my truck. Words cannot decribe how much nicer that thing is to drive while still offering that familar truck feel, the high seating position, and that “no need to drive fast” feeling.

Generally, Z71’s or 4x4’s drive rougher, add a few hundred pounds of sand bags and it’s much smoother. I wouldn’t load down an SUV, they’re designated road trip and kid transport mall crawlers ha. I’d have airbags on my rear if I had to put 1500lbs in bed. My DMax loved weight but half tons not so much without airbags. What you should really think about is adding 1500 lbs on a ricer, that’ll make you think twice on what you “need” as a DD

Isn’t it amazing how a person can ask a simple question about fuel mileage. Wondering if he’s better off if he keeps his gas guzzler or getting a economy car. It descend s into calling the most popular car ever a piece of junk and how could anyone ever imagine driving anything other than a Chevy truck. Even calling the second most popular car ( Lexus) inferior to a Chevy truck. He didn’t even ask that question. He probably more confused than ever.

In addition, I’ve noticed some real charmers here too. Claiming to saving at the fuel pump allows them nicer things in life, if saving a few dollars per fill up grants anyone funds enough to buy the “nicer things in life” then you must’ve been living under a bridge or in your mommy and daddies basement for far far to long. Saving a few bucks at the gas station will not change anyone’s life for the better especially if you get T-Boned while driving a more mpg conscious vehicle. Drive what you want, live free.

I tested my 6.2 at the pump, filling with super makes me spend appropriately .35 cents more per gallon making it $7 more per tank than using regular, $600 more per year than if I was using regular. Approximately 50.00 more per month.

I’d rather spend $600 per year than many thousands going to therapy from the stress of driving a ricer especially when surrounded while on the congested hwy not even being able to see where you are cause you’re in a ricer.

Ok, feel better now?

The silverado and sierra suspension are downright aweful compared to cars are you kidding me?

you’re going to sit there and tell me a non adjustable suspension designed to handle 2000lbs in the bed is comfortable. News flash, when you have to design a suspension for those loads, it’s either got to be adjustable or it’s got to be compromised somewhere in the middle.

What are you so confused with is the giant lazyboy recliners you get to sit in, the low nvh, and commanding view of the road. It makes for an excellant ride when you don’t ask the suspension for anything. When you ask the suspension for something, I’ll take just about any car that isn’t a viper acr or a zl1 1le over the truck.

anybody who says our trucks have a smooth ride is smoking crack. Physics does not allow a non-adjustable spring and non-adjustable shock to perform well with 2k lbs and 4k lbs (weight over the rear axle estimation unloaded vs loaded)

You have already proven over and over again you have no clue what you are talking about. I usually do not like to waste time, especially since I am going to assume you are what twelve years old? No one would accuse someone of being on crack because they say a vehicle does or does not ride good.

Firstly, a truck has not been designated with a payload of 2000lbs in many years. I cannot even remember when that change was made because when I was growing up they were already 1500, 2500, and 3500, then of course the F-150, F-250, and F-350 variants for Ford. Most people here, including your Sierra was designed and tested to have 1500 lbs of payload. Which means any weight that is added, including passengers, to the GVWR goes toward that 1500 lbs.

You are the one that is confused. These trucks were literally designed with suspension in mind. Any person I ask about them, the first thing they usually say is "it rides like a Cadillac" or something similar. Now when you move up to a 2500 they literally weigh about double, yes double what my truck does. They have thicker tires, with a higher PSI rating, much heavier frame. That is because they are more truck and designed to constantly be pulling something or have payload in the bed.

However, I did drive a 2007 (old body) Duramax recently and it surprised me on how nice the ride was. However, it was definitely not as good as mine.

Yes sir it is and I do not know why I keep arguing... just cannot help myself.

The difference is .70 a gallon for premium. In his case it would be more pronounced. So comparing 20-23 mpg versus 35-38 mpg on reg. Makes a difference. Even considering that in his case his truck is too new so he would lose too much on the trade. That was my recommendation to him. At least for a few years.

So I honestly hope you are not referring to me. Because if you are you are just blatantly lying, people can go back and read you know. If you read my other post, you would know I also drive a Toyota Camry and never said that Lexus was "inferior". They ride very smoothly, but it is a very firm feeling that I do not like. I feel like if I were to hit a decent sized pothole that would be the end of it. I live in West Virginia so there are plenty of potholes out here to hit as well.

So depending on how much you drive that is the low estimate. If you compare two cars that with only a 10 MPG difference it is closer to $1,000 dollars a year. Which should roughly cover the insurance. Unless you have a bunch of accidents and speeding tickets that jacks the price up.

Plus this is ignorance to say the least. The Toyotoa Camry holds up extremely well in accidents, you would know that if you would have read a little more.

Having that said, I prefer my truck, especially with the way people drive nowadays. People have no respect for motor vehicles, the roadway, or other people on it. Just saying, it does not matter what your MPG or crash test rating your car has if my truck climbs up on top of it. Plus I have seen the hype on how "big is not always better" which is obviously a lie. Not all trucks perform perfect in accidents.  However, you are better in a truck any day of the week than you are a smaller sedan, especially considering collisions. Finally, the visibility in my truck is honestly much, much better than it is in the Camry and I feel more confident. I guess we agree on all this.

lol

Sorry I responded to quick I meant to your previous post, talking about Lexus being inferior. I love the cars, I used to drive them every single day. However, I PERSONALLY prefer my truck. If I ever considered a car in that price range it will probably be an Audi or maybe even a Mercedes, but hey I already have a Camry.
