Sierra as a Daily Driver

I just got a job where I have to drive about 40 miles (one way) to work and of course I just got a brand new 2018 Sierra AT in August. I'm still fighting if I want to sell it and get something like a VW passat and a beater truck (for farm work). What do yall think I should do and what kind of miles are yall driving to work everyday??

ummm..New Truck under warranty?   No repair items most likely should be able to drive 3+ years without putting nothing but gas into it?  I average 20mpgs's and for the comfort, convenience and safety I only need 1qty reliable vehicle the gas consumption/money is not going to sway me to a death trap 2door for 30mpg's

I drive 120 miles a day in my '18 Silverado. No issues and average 19-20 mpg in Charlotte traffic.

I drive 70-80 miles one-way for work; mostly highway.  When I accepted the job, I was driving a 2015 Sierra on a lease.  Fortunately, they let me do an early turn-in so I financed an 2018 Sierra so I could put on the mileage my job required.  I did not even consider a smaller vehicle.  If your financial situation allows you to spend extra on fuel and you love your truck, I would keep it.  Just my opinion...

What was your reason for buying a new truck in the first place, just farm work?

I DD mine, dont care... 120k miles and climbing.

With the added cost of insurance and maintenance on the second vehicle not worth it in my opinion. I just scaled back from two and now just have the Sierra. The added space and comfort make it worth while.

I bought the truck, then a couple of weeks went by and I got a job that I couldn't pass up although it was a little bit further away. I only owe about 6k on it, but damn I'd lose a lot on a trading it in. Maybe I should just get some BB tuning and HPtuners tcm and keep it till the wheels fell off

I have an '18 All-Terran too. They sure do drive nice on the highway. I dont have much of a commute anymore but I wouldn't hesitate considering the comfort, safety and 20-21mpg (highway driving) I get.

Ha, for only owing $6k, i would keep it and have it get paid off and drive it to 100k or more. You really won't be needing another truck besides just for the want factor. We always want the newest and best lol

I used to do a 35 mile one way commute in my lifted Canyon, that got about the same MPG as a stock Sierra.  Ultimately, all the mileage I put on that vehicle lead to me listing it for sale sooner than I planned, as maintenance started getting expensive.

I've never really had the space for a second vehicle for myself, so my DD needs to meet my weekend adventure needs as well.  My wife drives a smaller car, so we always have that as an option when we travel together.

Fortunately, now my commute is very short, so driving my V8 to work every day does not carry a big penalty.  With the long term financing on my Sierra, even if my commute gets longer, it will likely still make sense to keep the truck.

I’m all for a commuter car for mileage. In your case the money you lose trading in would more than cover the gas difference.

It’s what you wanted, keep it. Maybe you can find someone at work that can carpool with you. You drive one week he or she the next and so on. I’m sure you got a great deal on it and these trucks are awesome utilitarian vehicles just great having one. Your resale value is going to be stronger on your pickup than a used VW. Keep what you’ve got and lease a gas saver for a couple hundred per month.

Don't sell your truck homey.  Just get a motorcycle.  When I lived in San Diego, I used my bike as my daily driver to work and used my truck for everything else.

I drive my '17 2500hd to work evryday, 55 miles at least, one way. I carry 1,000 lbs of tools in the box, not economical, but comfortable.
