You can hear what's happening just before you stop in this video, pay attention to the stops. My truck is 1400 miles on it and makes this noise frequently. I took my truck to service at least 7 times and they are telling me it looks fine! Created a case to GM support, and they even don't reply back my calls, emails. Please double check before you buy your dream truck and get used to live with this noise until it breaks something in the engine or transmission. I'm so disappointed to buy :(

Tried different volume levels but the Audio just sounds like a lot of wind noise?

On the 8 spd transmissions I had 3 in a row 16 / 17 and 18 with the 6.2 16 had a harsh downshift occasionally/ 17 was a bit worse/ 18 only did it rarely. This 19 with the 10spd seems to upshift/downshift very smoothly, it is the best of the 4 trucks so far.

Yes this is very disappointing. I buy a new silverado almost every year since 2005. Usually a crew and it always has a 5.3L Z71 4WD. Never ever had a problem with my trucks until now. Just purchased a 2020 LT Crew Z71 with a 5.3L ,4WD and the 8 speed transmission which now has 750 miles on it. Very disappointed in the operation of this transmission. When accelerating up through the gears the transmission is flawless. When coming to a stop, a few feet before the actual stop, it feels like the truck has a shutter as the transmission is shifting down and actually working against you stopping. In most cases if the radio is off I can hear it as well as feel it. If coming to a stop and I shift into neutral the stop is nice and smooth like a stop should be. Have 2 recalls for the truck but none for the transmission. What gives GM these trucks are not cheap. Maybe my next one will be Ford or Dodge!!!!!!!!

GM is still working on software ..  you should pass by the dealer and see if they have a software update.

I know on the 10 speed there is ....

I actually go in tomorrow to have the dealership buy back my truck because of this issue. GM told me don’t expect a fix or an update because we believe it’s working as intended. It’s all a joke, my service manager said they have used the update software line for 4 years now. Hopefully the 2500 2020 will treat me better.

Yes gm  customer service it would be great if you could help me. I've had my truck at the dealer 12 times 3 dealers 1st dealer flat out said they didnt have time. My opinion someone there should be with no job. 2nd dealer flushed transmission 3rd and best dealer yet I'm not sold on competent dealer has done everything from reprogramming it to last time torque converter. So after 12 trips I get my truck back yesterday now transmission temperature is at 230 degrees f and will not shift into 6th out of 5th and down shifts and never shifts back up. I have a bunch of videos of this whole adventure. I'm just before getting a lawyer all I want is what I paid 50 grand for a new truck to run and not be at dealer twice a week I've lost money from work and time .

All I can say, not everyone is having this issue, but the transmission is probably sensitive any slight defect. My 2019 5.3 8-spd did the very hard downshift just before stopping right at the 4000 mile mark, but only for two days. It then resolved itself before I could take it back to the dealer and has not done it since. It upshifts and downshifts smoothly and actually seems like a pretty good transmission.  I have 8000 miles on it now. The dealer did a tranny flush before I bought it.

I would be upset also if the problem kept up. It would be hard to live with. But the 8-speed transmission does work well as designed. Hope you get it straightened out.

Try getting the dealer to apply this fix:  #19-NA-244: Harsh 3-2 Downshift During Closed Throttle Coast Down When
Coming to a Stop- (Nov 1, 2019).  May help fix your problem.

Had a 2017 Silverado. Terrible issues with the six speed. They replace the torque converter, fluid flush, and all the other standard stuff. Worked good for a few months and started again. No help from the dealer. So I ended up taking a hit and traded it in on a new 2019 Sierra SLT X31.  That was October of 2019. Truck has been great until today.  Slamming hard in to first coming to a stop. So hard I thought we got rear ended.  I tried coasting to a stop with little break, BANG. Tried a harder stop, BANG. Have just over 5,000 on the clock. I check trans fluid temp, 179f. Well within tolerance. Fluid is full, and appears normal color. Yes, I'm pissed. Service was already closed. I have a trip coming up in four days. A vacation. It was already put off once due to COVID. WE really need to get away. I will be towing a 20 ft enclosed trailer hauling two Spyders. Did I say I was pissed?

I have a 2021 z71 RST 5.3 L V8 Silverado and I am having late downshifting problems. When I let my foot off the gas I continually feel a light engine downshift a few times until I come to a stop. Does anyone else have this issue?

Have had the same issue on my truck just right before I stop.  Had it serviced and updated months ago, seemed to hide the issue.  Just started up again a month or so ago.  Had my truck serviced this past Tuesday and mentioned it to him.  Shook his head and said yup, that's happening to them.  No true resolution at this time per him.

What year and package do you have on your truck?

    • What’s missing in all this is patience and investment in the future. Buy a 170K starter home. Ten years later sell it invest in a more expensive home. Eventually you’ll have a 600K home and pay starter home payments. Buy a starter car. Maintain it well. Save the payments after it’s payed for then buy an expensive car if you desire. Buy a tumbler make your own coffee, pack your lunch. Cook your own dinner. Most importantly take care of your car.
    • People mislead themselves. Statistics are highly useful indicators.   Here's the tie-in to this thread. If an oil sample tests shows a wear indicator of 7 using cheaper ACDelco oil, and a wear indicator of 2 (lower = less wear) using a particular brand of Mobil oil, and wear has a linear relationship with engine lifespan, anyone could assume that Mobil is reducing wear by more than 50% (let's just say a 200% reduction for you red state people trying hard to do math) which leads to increasing engine life by 2x. Perhaps, in a vacuum, by itself, when dreamed by AI.   Yeah?! That's what the statistic is saying, isn't it?   No, it isn't. It didn't come out and say engine life is doubled. That's a very bad assumption, and a case of severe myopia by assuming something potentially untrue about the only data point in focus.   Average cost of a new car is 50k. You bet it is.   The median cost of a new car is more like 35k. Expensive cars are skewing the perception that "average" now means a $50k price of entry for a very average automobile. And that's not true. People who don't understand statistics twist the living heck out of them to mean all sorts of things they don't actually mean.   "Average" new car payment is $1000/month. Yep, it is. And in that number are all the $35k new car buyers who bring significant equity, and the $25k new car buyers who finance the car for a month just to get a rebate, and then pay it off. Know what isn't in that number? All the payments made by people who don't finance a car.   Picking one's own data point (don't have a car payment, never paid $50k for a new vehicle, my house cost $170k, I afforded a middle class lifestyle on $4.50/hr) is just a data point. Just like earning $25/hr in an area where the median home price is almost $1 Million is a data point. In fact, it's a lot of data points given that 80% of the US population lives in/around major cities. They're not idiots; the vast majority of them do it to make a living because that's where the big money is.   The highs have become higher, lows have become lower, and how your personal mileage varies is not truth for an entire country. At the same time you can't NOT acknowledge the data. While it doesn't paint YOUR personal picture, it certainly tints the reality that you also live in, as does your single data point.
    • Glad you had success with it. I did as well, but about 5-6 months later it returned. Tried again, same result. This was after the dealer made several attempts and never even got it to slow down.
