My 2019 with 6.2 and 10 speed has no issues (1500 miles on it)

However my 15  6.2 with 8 speed was awful for 38,000 miles, never fixed.

Fingers crossed on the 19

They couldn`t even get the 8 speed Transmission right and still tell customers it because its an adaptive transmission. I can make the truck shift with a bang every time now. there is no fix. all the fluid flushes with Mobile 1 synthetic converter replacements Updates relearns wont do a thing. Its a bad design. Ive spoken to many Techs in the industry that are employees and all same the same thing. There horrible they get dozens in a week with same complaints. there told to go thought the same steps - flushes relearns torque converter change - outs. all temp fixes some had transmissions replaced only for them to do the same thing. Bad design is a Bad design. You can Change all the parts you want. still going to run the same. even they dont want to admit it. all they can say is hope your dealership has taken care of your issue. LOL what a joke.

its true, the A8 has been one of the most temperamental transmissions in recent time. Not that it fails or requires significant maintenance, but it just isn't very smooth and is very prone to torque converter issues. There are TONS of people with the harsh downshift problem, far after learning has completed. It's something most people just live with, but with the new 19's coming out you'd think they would've fixed it. I personally think they looked at the problem, realized it would take a complete re-design to fix, and just said "screw it". Keep selling them for a couple more year then go to the A10. No sense in pouring money into it.

I've had no issue with my new 8 speed transmission, tied to 5.3L. The truck was manufactured late December 2018. I see it shifting way more smoothly than my previous 14 silverado with 6 speed and the same 5.3L.

Hope it  continues to be all good. May I ask how many miles on the ride? My A6 is also a pain to drive. So bad I had it tuned.

I have almost 1000 miles on it now. It's lack of take off in first gear is very similar to my old 2014. I haven't tried sport mode yet. But in general, its shifting is way smoother than my old 14.

1000 miles ? No kidding mine was good for about that too. Then one day rolling out slow from a gas station BANG like someone rear ended me.  First thing my dealer service guy said it’s an adaptive  transmission . Try not to let off the gas when you roll away . He told me to adjust my driving habits . Lol . I don’t even know how any idiot in his right mind could even say that . They must be brainwashed to believe this crap even themselves. 58 Grand to adjust my driving habits to a vehicle. All I can say is that this day and age with all the forums and internet searches the days of fooling customers is over. They should wake up . Cus there truck line is we’re the money is at for them . There car lines are ugly other than corvette and  Camaro .

Since I'm coming from 14 silverado after almost 5 years driving, and 100k miles, I don't care that much if the transmission kick a little bit too. By the way, I felt couple of kicks after 1000 miles too ?

Yes, I paid $60k for my new 19 truck, but to be honest with you, I didn't forget that I'm driving a truck, not a Mercedes. Of course, I could buy some sort of a luxury car with this money, and most probably, not to have these issues. I'm looking for other capabilities in my truck that Mercedes and other luxury cars don't have them.

I had the same feeling you have, when I saw issues with my 14 one. Crazy problems, such as, freezing infotainment system for hours when I was using HD radio, noises in the dashboard, a lot of recalls, ...

Chevy took care of them gradually. Don't forget we all bought the first series of these trucks, and may take time until all bugs to be fixed.

Appearance of the truck is something that everyone has his/her opinion about it. Personally, I love my truck's appearance, and I get a lot of compliments about it.

I had brand new 2009 Tacoma and I was at the dealer every week for 2 years. I gave up finally, and tarde it in with 34K miles on it. Look at major safety recalls in New 2019 Rams. Ford hasn't change the truck that much in past five years, but look at the complaints and safety recalls on it that it's still coming. I've had past 4 generations of Silverado trucks, and have never been disappointed seriously.

I said these just to chill you down ?

Nothing is perfect, nor will it ever be. My past 2 vehicles were a 12 Lexus GX460, V8 body on frame SUV, it was at the dealer numerous times for a few issues, next was a 17 Audi Q7, 70k vehicle, again, back numerous times, backing it out of my driveway in the cold there was an ear piercing squeal out of the brakes, many many of them have it, Audi says they are coming out with a fix for it, I drove it that way for 2 years and no fix to date. It had many other issues as well, don't even start me on the MMI (Infotainment system), always locking up and rebooting etc. Even the high end vehicles have their issues, it's unfortunate but normal.

This article just came out couple of hours ago:

https://amp.usatoday.com/amp/2787155002

It says:

The company also issued a recall for roughly 222,000 model-year 2019 Ram 1500 pickups that are equipped with adjustable pedals. The company found that certain adjustments may cause the brake pedals to detach.

This is scary, not some kicks in the transmission ?

The tranny update is not a good option unless you want very soft and way less aggressive shifting. I never had an issue but they added all the available updates, the tranny update I hate. Does not down shift as easy or quickly. Some may need it, but it’s like a big Buick that just wants to curse and not splash my beer.

I test drove a new trail boss with around 10 miles on the odometer, in moderate traffic conditions for part of the drive, and noticed the hard downshift twice.  It felt exactly the same as the way my ‘17 tahoe 6sp tranny shifted BEFORE I disabled the AFM.  I also felt the torque converter locking/unlocking with the cylinder deactivations.

Test drove a RST and LTZ a couple of weeks later with far less traffic and higher speeds and felt no tranny issues.

I really like these new 19’s, but am hesitant to buy one with this particular ongoing issue.  Seems that disabling DFM may solve the majority of this, but no one yet has products available to do so.  I can tell you that my ‘17 tahoe drives like a completely different vehicle operating on all 8 cylinders 100% of the time.

I had a 14 with the 5.3 and 6sp that was at the shop 3 different times for hard up shifts/downshifts that could not be resolved (“transmission operating as normal” per dealer).  I traded that piece of junk in less than a year, don’t want to be in that position again!

I noticed this starting yesterday. My 4Runner had a very similar bump when stopping but it was caused by the slip yoke not being greased enough.  I realize that this is the tranny but same feeling.

I’ll give it a while and if it doesn’t go away I’ll have it looked at.

I have a 2019 as well. Noticed it do this a few times. Seems like it’s getting better after only 400 miles. Still babying it so will see after I start driving it normal. Already had to have my master cylinder reservoir cap replaced because it was causing a leak. I have a rst crew can with the 5.3 and 8 speed tranny. Hopefully, it’s just a learning thing. Time will tell
