Do you hate the shift buttons on column shifter?

No problem for me.

The mountain roads I travel I run M2- M5, manual 2 - 4 the most.

There are just to many grade changes and in auto I don't like how it shifts plus on the down grades it gains to much speed.

Down shift manually for down grades to stay off the brakes.

I drive it like it's a stick shift.

Before moving to the high country where the roads were a lot flatter M5 in town.

Interesting idea.

  • You could have them manufactured oversees, or locally.
  • You could bring in investors to increase production and marketing.
  • You could sell the idea to an after market manufacturer, or possibly even an automobile manufacturer.
  • You could do feasibility, marketing, and product sampling studies.

Here is a possible upgrade to the shifter:

  • A little switch that activates "Voice Control".
  • You would say a code word, and then the command. "Chevy Reverse, or Go-Go-Gadget reverse".
  • The voice command would only shift gears if the computer deemed it safe to do so.
  • This could also be an anti-theft feature too. It will not shift out of park without the code word being said first.

Note:

  • It is always best to patent an idea before giving out too much information. (ball park $15,000 +/-)
  • Keep in mind that liability is a major factor when designing these types of things.

The joystick options are endless. I would go for something futuristic. Maybe something similar to one of these:

Shifting shouldn’t take up so much real estate IMHO.
I’d prefer my console uncluttered, and shifters (paddles or buttons) on the steering wheel.

I think a good suggestion, being that GM uses a lot of parts across multiple platforms, is find a console mounted shifter that is already used in a GM vehicle.  You could get lucky and the inputs and outputs be compatable with the K2xx.  Then the only challenge would be designing a trim plate for the console

Those buttons aren't meant to be a "shifter" (you should not use them to constantly upshift and downshift like a manual).  They are meant to limit the transmission to the highest gear you want it to go into.  I wouldn't use them to constantly change gears.
