Question: Towing with lift and wheels?

This is for the guys with 4" lift + with upgraded wheels and tires.. Does anybody tow a significant load or trailer while lifted? Reason I ask is I have a 6.2 with the 3.42 gears and pull a 7k travel trailer several times a year. The 6.2 obviously is more than adequate even with my level and WD hitch. But eventually I was looking to go with 6" lift and 33" tires with 22" wheels. It does have headers, catback, cai, and a tune from Lew. Will a 6" lift be a problem pulling a 7k trailer and the 3.42 gears?? Thanks guys!

Mine has a 6in lift and 35s and I tow several times a year. I also have 4.56 gears. I believe the first thing anyone should ever do once they get a lift is to regear.

Check out CST https://cstsuspension.com/ doesn’t affect towing. Mine is 18 6.2 CC with 4.5” CST lift and absolutely love it! Their lifts do not affect towing capacity, turning radius especially doesn’t give that awful wider track at all

No specific brand of lift will affect towing, but the raised height and larger tires will.

I would say with your setup you’ll be fine with 33” tires. You’ll just notice a decrease in mpg. You’ll also want air bags on the rear to keep the sagging at a minimum.

Exactly. Gear ratio alone changes tow ratings typically. Changing tire size is comparable to changing gears.

Also be mindful of the load ratings on 22 “ tires and wheels.

Untrue, widened track width absolutely affects towing capabilities.

I towed a 7k trailer a couple months ago with no problems except did notice braking and acceleration took a hit as well as stability. Spacers will lower your towing capabilities hence the reason why I don’t like widened track on any truck especially when towing hence the reason why off road packages have lower weight capabilities. Highly recommend talking with lift company for real capabilities loss. Good luck

I still disagree. 99% percent of folks with these trucks lifted, will only notice a loss in mpg and crappier ride due to the heavier and higher ply tires. Stability generally gets better with a widened track.

Any lift that does widen the track on our trucks only widen it 1.5” on each side, 3” overall in the front only. You will not notice a difference with this.

Now, with all those massive offset wheels (like in that video), then yes you will notice a difference. But that’s not what he was asking.

That video LITERALLY contradicts you, LITERALLY.......

Not that custom offsets is the guru of towing knowledge anyway lol

I’ll hand it to you, you’d look to make something negative. The point of posting this light hearted and funny video was to draw attention to the fact that it “IS” questionable to tow with lifted trucks due to the geometry of the newer suspension which is designed to lift not tow. Custom Offsets would’ve ruined themselves if they 100% admitted that lifted trucks are not good for towing. Made points throughout the video.

Wifes truck is a 16 towmax with 6" lift.  We towed a 32' travel trailer just fine until we went to a 41'

Directly above was your initial claim, above that the new one. So it’s ok to tow with cst because it doesn’t widen track width, or it’s questionable to tow with any lift because of the change in geometry? I’m just curious which statement you stand behind?

You used that video to substantiate your claims, that’s not light hearted lol. However, even those goofy clowns know that simply lifting doesn’t necessarily hinder towing, nor does widened track width caused from lifting.
