relay orientation

Hi,

I have a question regarding my new to me 2012 2500 as I'm chasing down a potential bad starter.  HOW do you tell the orientation of the various relays if you, say, forgot to note which way it was plugged in beforehand?  Some have the "8385" (number on top) on the left, and on others it's on the right.

Thanks, First ever Chevy 2500 pickup

Here is a picture of how the relays should be installed.

These relays are typically designed to be reversible

The relays will work reversed. You are correct. But the load will be off because of the way the current is flowing through the internal parts of the relay. There was a GM bulletin about how it will make your headlights dimmer, internal lights dimmer and also back feed the lamps/devices through other components. that's why the legs are given specific numbers on the bottoms of the relays.

But you're right, they will work in any direction.
